Which would be.....

...the more memorable trip for you?

A) catching a limit of 22-24" trout

or

B) catching a 30" trout

LaAngler 02-22-2010 12:09 AM

depends on how much the 30 incher weighed

Pick a number................:work:

LaAngler 02-22-2010 12:21 AM

big trout advisory 02-22-2010 12:25 AM

You tryin' to 'jack my thread?

A 30" trout.....a "ten pounder" is not one of the choices.

Chances are, if the fish was caught in Big Lake, it would be a PB. It's not like south Texas where 30" trout weigh 6.5 lbs. I'd take the 30"er and take my chances any day.

meaux fishing 02-22-2010 12:34 AM

i would be happy either way....but more memorable 30 incher.... more enjoyable limit of 24 inchers cause that way i get more meat....only get two fillets from 30 incher:eek::shaking:

BayBolt23 02-22-2010 01:04 AM

Salty thats a hard choice but now a days Im after a sow. You know the one to put on the wall and piss off the wife.

Ray 02-22-2010 01:05 AM

Salinity is up to 3 now. We might be Bass fishing for the tournament.

OK, here's another question:

If you were fortunate enough to catch a 30" trout, would you:

A) Take a pic and do your best to release it unharmed.
B) Take it straight to the taxidermist.
C) Take an electric knife to it.

"W" 02-22-2010 08:36 AM

Just load the boat.....

all star rod 02-22-2010 08:38 AM

Depends on how much meat I have in the freezer!:D

I'd rather the 30 incher......take a pic, get weight, lenght, RELEASE and have replica mount made.

Too many coon azzes have taken option C though :rotfl:

longsidelandry 02-22-2010 09:23 AM

A combo of A,B and C. Take some good pics and measurements to get it replica mounted then make some grease pop!!!

I don't get to go fishing but a handful of times a year so EVERY legal fish I catch is staying in the boat. Sorry if you don't like it...

LaAngler 02-22-2010 10:20 AM

If I am going to do a mount, I would do a skin mount.

I think my minimum for a skin mount would be 9 pounds no matter what length.

The way I look at it, killing/cleaning a 8 lb plus trout is no different from doing it with a largemouth.

speck-chaser 02-22-2010 10:39 AM

I would have to lean towards the 30"er. But, either scenario would be great since Ive never done either. 25 - 24"-25" would be a blast. (All on topwater)

Choupique 02-22-2010 11:31 AM

30" No question for me.

BayouFX4 02-22-2010 11:53 AM

I'd say 30" trout. I've never seen one that big so it would be awesome to catch one.

Trout taste way better than bass though... I throw all my bass back except the one on my wall

homerun 02-22-2010 12:36 PM

DID BOTH SAME DAY. WAS A GREAT DAY TO REMEMBER FEB. 2004. 32 DEGREES WITH A SLIGHT S WIND. ALL ON TOP WATER. BIG GIRL WAS 9.5:smokin: :smokin:

LaAngler 02-22-2010 12:37 PM

big specks get a stronger taste to them

meaux fishing 02-22-2010 12:44 PM

all bs aside i prolly would just mount a big girl... wait a minute that doesnt sound right... for me it would need to be bigger than 7.5

Yea if I’m going for meat i’ll take 12"-14" fish if I can. Plus nothing beats a thin fillet fried up; much better than thick chunks cut off a bigger fish.

LaAngler 02-22-2010 01:52 PM

i had some 17-18 inch redfish that were actually better than some 4 lb trout last week

Pool Boy 02-22-2010 02:03 PM

Not into limits, so I guess the 30" trout would be my choice...

jpeff31787 02-22-2010 02:28 PM

tough question there my friend.. 30" trout would be SWEET but a limit of 4-5lb trout would be beautiful too. My feeling right now would be the limit of big trout, because I have a bad itch to catch a bunch of fish right now. Later in the season after i've caught fish, I'd probably say the one 30incher lol

fishinpox 02-22-2010 06:57 PM

for me the 30" would be more memorable, id like to say id snap a few pics and set her loose if she wasnt bleeding from the gills , and just get a replica made ....then i ask myself would i really? im leaning to setting her loose. but if i did kill it i would deff post pics of me putting the knife to her on some FLA websites:*****:. a limit of 20-24" fish is great but very possible to achive if you have the right conditions , in my mind a 30" sow is few and far between

Salty 02-22-2010 07:35 PM

I've had several fish mounted and, like the pics, even they get old. The memories never do. I'd cut a 30" trout loose in a heartbeat...no matter the weight.

calcutta37 02-22-2010 08:17 PM

30" and id get it skin mounted cause it would be a once in a lifetime deal.

MallardFish 02-22-2010 08:57 PM

30"er or limit of 4-5 pounders.....mmmm.....Who cares??? Either would be bad azz!

Nobody said anything about a limit of "4-5 pounders". Unless, a 22" trout weighs 5 pounds. :shaking:

jchief 02-22-2010 10:19 PM

30" CPR. have caught the limit of 20" or so before.

"W" 02-22-2010 10:23 PM

dirty 30 club...baby!!!!

Nasty 02-22-2010 10:38 PM

Definately the 30''. You can brag about it for the rest of your life! And, you can work on the story so it sounds a little better each time.

Raymond 02-22-2010 10:44 PM

You will have achieved something that most fishermen never will and that gives you the right to brag about it and stretch that trout as much as you want.

Big gal

I want to catch a trout for the wall.
Got a 10.36 lb bass there . 8lb trout or above goes next to it.
Wouldn't kill another big bass unless it's 12 lb or better and after i get my 8 lb trout ,it would have to be 10 lbs to get a spot on the wall.
