going offshore
if anyone has an extra spot or 2 i would love to go out, ill pay my share and really want to get into some offshore fishing.
If you have a lot of extra room on your boat, i would love stack a few yaks on there and you can drop us off and we will fish from there. :help: But anything would be appreciated. Thanks again |
You ain't lernt yore lesson yet??? LOL
|
man, ive been more scared crossing big lake than i was saturday night no lie.
I love it out there. One day im gonna get me a cat and spend lots of time out there. kinda wish i wouldnt have sold my boat, now that i know some people that go out. |
I never felt our life was at hand, but it could have turned that way if the waves changed patterns. But I will not go back, even with swells, if they are over 4's.
It just makes for rough fishing. Yak your a wildman wanting to go out with yaks to hook up with big fish as your prey. You would be like a big corkey out there. But if your serious, I think I could fit two along side my boat. Maybe rig fish a little so I can unhook when you hook onto something and gaff it for you. |
yea i was looking at your boat, we could put 1 or 2 across the back of it, or what a lot of people do is hang them off the sides
|
ill try anything once or twice, people do it all the time, catch 100 pound plus tuna.
I really want to get on some chicken dolphin this summer in the yak |
Find your hunting grounds and get back with me. We could start at close rigs and work our way out. It would be fun to video that.
|
i would love to make a trip to the lump from venice, run out of tiger pass and fish the rigs going out and work our way out there
you could tie a lure under my kayak and keep a rope on me use me as a cork |
but ill do whatever yall wanna do. going out there got me bitten by the bug. im hooked.
great just what i needed, something else to dump money into |
If you painted eyes on the front and sides. then put a large treble hook on the back. You could paddle quickly and it would look like a flying fish, tuna's dessert.:*****::*****::*****:
|
hmmm, i can paddle around 4-6 mph. perfect speed for a trolling bait

really? they treat it different than a boat?
guess they dont see many out there so it would raise suspicion, i would def radio them first and hope they answer, they wouldnt answer at 143 the other night |

They's bad boys. Wait till I talk to them again.
|
yeah we thought we was at a different rig till we saw the sign. they wouldn't answer
|
It is 2 platforms connected with a catwalk.
|
yeah it had a sign on one one the platforms that said wd143 so we new we was at the right one

Cant hook to it.........bastids......woulda stayed longer, but didnt wanna run the motor non-stop......... |

Wow you would use a rig hook in 6+ foot seas:eek: |

Long rubber shock leader, sure......... |
Yea it just gets a little dicey when you attach and detach to the rig with such large swells.
|
how far out of cameron do you have to go get to some snapper or other fish like these
|
I used to fish 35 to 50 miles out of Cameron for Snapper.
|
dang u got to go that far out
|
Like Ray said, but you can sometimes find solid legal sized Snapper around 22 miles but its not really worth doing anymore since they changed the regs. You have to go 40+ to catch Grouper, Amberjack ect.
|
WC-117 area had them about 18 miles out, but the season is not open at the same time they are that far in.

34 miles out is about 50 ft. deep.
|
are there any other offshore fish that are accessable by bay boat that are pretty close in....grand isle is just to far to make several trips. i understand it would have to be a calm day during the summer
|
You can catch Spanish and Specks at the platforms off of Broussards Beach in the summer. You can also catch Ling at the bouy's in the summer. They come into the bouy's around 2 miles South of the jetty's all the way to the end of the bouy chain.
You can also catch some Tripletail around the jacket wells and weedlines a few miles out. |
got on some ling about 20 miles out year before last, we were in an 21' express cc

There are some good places about 18 miles out of Grand Chenier. Lot more platforms out of GC than out of Cameron. The water is a little deeper closer in. THey have some big double and triple platforms out there. They have more Ling also.
Stone Energy had a platform, Block 44 out of GC that was great fishing. |
i took my boat to the small rigs about 5 miles out last year. its only 18' 6 it did fine but i would have to have another boat with me for that far. also it would have to be glass

These were caught a few years ago out of GC......~ 40 miles out. That day we did not start finding good "green" water until ~ 35 miles out.
. |
Check out my profile pics Gerald. We did that a lot before I hurt my back.

One trip, one of the guys had something take his bait and the fish just started swimming away from the rig.....the reel was screeming. About 45 minutes and 3 miles later......we finally got to see the ~ 8 foot hammerhead shark before breaking it off. The other guys wanted me to take a turn with the rod......I was not up to that punishment after watching them. |
When we caught big fish, we unhooked from the platforms and drifted away with the fish. We didn't fight them at the platform. We didn't want to chance letting them go into the legs and cut the line.
The good thing about fishing out there was no pressure, no potlicking, wide open spaces. If you see someone fishing at a platform, just go to the next one. You could fish on weekends and not see anyone. |

gerald do you still go out? if so i would like to tag along with my boat sometime |

I have been tempted a couple of times, when at the Cameron Jetties, to run out to the nearest rig in my 15' boat when the seas were slick. Last trip was to the Lump. The only thing we caught were Bonita and one nice Wahoo. |
