Lake P or Grand Isle in September

Ok Guys give us the Pros and Cons...

We want to set a date here soon to have a Saltycajun.com Stop #2 Benefit Charity Tournament on the East side.

Looks like Grand Isle or Lake P will be the place! But please state why you think it should be at this Place!

We also will look harder at the feedback from the guys who Fished Big Lake event!!!

We want the East Side to step up and out do the 1st stop! Here is a chance for Saltycajun to raise a new record for the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation!!!

Serious input Please;)

mikedatiger 03-16-2010 11:39 AM

Bridgeside Marina in GI is booked solid - only 2 weekends available in September for a big event. Unless there are other big marinas there.

We could always rotate the east tourney every year...

Everyone, please consider logistics in your response, Marina, lodging, boozing, etc... But Marina is a big factor.

meaux fishing 03-16-2010 11:43 AM

Sand Dollar is just as big as Bridgeside... August and September is way tougher to fish in Lake P than GI....lots of camps to rent on GI we would have to stay in hotels on Lake P....

specktator 03-16-2010 11:43 AM

I was there and fished but didn't register for BL tourney. I was there Friday night. I'll gladly donate $100 for charity though for not registering. Let me know where to send it. And I will def fish it if it is in GI. Lake P, maybe. I have never been there before, but I'll give it a shot. GI would be a good
place to party also. We could all go to Artie's and party. In the summer, you can catch fish anywhere practically in GI even if u don't own a boat. Also be good for yakers! I have a camp that can sleep a lot of ppl. And I could also prob get my hands on 1 or 2 more if
someone gave me enough notice.

RaginCagin 03-16-2010 11:44 AM

You also have gulf stream and sand dollar marina in GI to choose from. Sand Dollar is just as big as bridge.

meaux fishing 03-16-2010 11:46 AM

beaches for wives and kids at GI...

Fishmaster 03-16-2010 11:51 AM

GI is a lot easier to fish and you have a lot more choices, yaks, waders, boats anything.... But lake P is a harder if you never fished it also if you don't have a boat that can handle the waves on some of the rougher days your screwed.... GI is just a more tournament friendly place.......

Ray 03-16-2010 11:53 AM

Gulf Stream is small, but will probably appreciate the business more, and will probably be willing to do it. They will like the business.
There are a lot more cabins. I don't like parking my boat in a hotel parking lot and having to bring everything in the hotel so no one steals anything off of it.
If it is in Grand Isle, my wife will definitely come. She loves it. Working 14/14, I like spending my weekends with my wife cause she works on weekdays.
Grand Isle has lots of water to fish. Plus, if you are more familiar with Leeville/Fourchon, you can fish there also and still weigh in at Grand Isle.
Grand Isle has the mall/good bars/good resturants/Friendly people.

simplepeddler 03-16-2010 12:00 PM

what Ray said

QUACKHEAD 03-16-2010 12:04 PM

Yea, what everyone else has said above me. Grand Isle.
Plus maybe Meaux fishing can keep that Red Snapper he's holding when he catches it, insted of getting a picture of it.

:amen:

I 2nd that !
If it's on a weekend I can make it I would like for my girl friends son to fish with me for the tourny!
Maybe if there's a few kids there they could have a kids division ?

simplepeddler 03-16-2010 12:29 PM

sweet kids division.........that means you guys without them will take some of mine???

just kidding, would enjoy fihsing with T-bic the wonder boy.......

goldenrod 03-16-2010 12:38 PM

a kid division would be great, and an added bonus to have them excited about winning something for themselves.

all star rod 03-16-2010 12:38 PM

Are there any camps to rent around Lake P???

I would think Grand Isle would me more tournament friendly! Also, if it is in Grand Isle, better decide soon because the camps there get booked several months in advance.

RaginCagin 03-16-2010 12:43 PM

Also if you dont want to rent an entire camp you can rent rooms at Bridge side marina and Sand dollar marina that have 2 twin beds in them for $50 a night. Cheap and all you have to do is walk out the door get in your boat and go. You can also get camps that sleep well over 20 people for about $4-500 a night or smaller ones that sleep around 6 and have a small kitchen for about $150 per night.

LaAngler 03-16-2010 12:49 PM

do GI

prize for top offshore catch, and maybe an inshore slam format or something, kids prizes

Shawn Braquet 03-16-2010 12:52 PM

thats the same weekend as the Redfish Rodeo...labor day weekend too

youmyboyblue 03-16-2010 01:32 PM

I would be surprised to see a decent stringer caught in Lake P in late August or Sept.

RaginCagin 03-16-2010 01:38 PM

This is going to be a blast. The island will be packed and the bars will be a hopin.

I also looked at the rodeo schedule and the redfish rodeo is held out of Bridge side and it looks like Sand dollar marina will be open. This is a top notch marina and has everything you can possibly want from bait, cabins, boat slips, fish cleaning, huge pavillion to do weigh ins, a bar, restaurant, gas and also provides a short run to the gulf or the bay.

Is it October YET? 03-16-2010 01:45 PM

GI is perfect. Since I don't have a boat I will be more than happy to watch your wives for you on the beach. :)

Have some common sence and be sure that there are no hunting seasons in progress or about to be. You will have a better turnout if there is nothing else to do but fish. Most are like me: we would rather shoot than just wiggle our poles.

i concur

"H" 03-16-2010 02:39 PM

I vote for GI, lot more options all the way around.
I know the hunters won't like this, just thowing it out, maybe push the time frame into Oct. or Nov. - fishing is better and your past the peak hurricane season.
we all know about hurricane season!

IMO you wont have hardly anyone show up in October and November with Bow season and squirrel season underway.

"W" 03-16-2010 02:46 PM

Welll HEll...........If we go into late Sep you have Teal hunting so......We would have to go into Oct

X10000

I was thinking more of summer time....

"W" 03-16-2010 02:51 PM

This is the deal when you rush one............We have to get our sposnors time to set up and account for the event........Pushing one after another is not going to fly!!!......... As you saw this event was loaded with hand outs....If we give our guys 8 months to plan you might have 10xs that..........

Last weekend of Aug might be the only option but thats a if...... No matter the date its not going to fit everyone!! Thats just the beast of the deal!!! We will work hard so everyone can come but we know it will not happen

ShadMan 03-16-2010 03:26 PM

Awesome, thanks! Donations can be made on our website @ cbtrf.org , by PayPal to donate@cbtrf.org , or to CBTRF, PO Box 950, Porter, TX 77365. We definitely appreciate the support!

I'll show up whenever I'm told to ( :) ), but I would think that towards the end of hurricane season and as it starts to cool would be great...maybe mid-October?

all star rod 03-16-2010 03:47 PM

I think SEPT will be bad due to all the duck hunters like me and several others. You only have so many days to duck hunt where you have all year to fish....I think late AUG would be a better date.

dut 03-16-2010 03:51 PM

IFA Redfish tour should also be the last weekend in August, just throwing it out there. It shouldn't effect participation for the tourney just may make accomodations more difficult.

RaginCagin 03-16-2010 03:53 PM

nevermind.

"W" 03-16-2010 03:55 PM

Right now I think we need to pick a date in Oct.......This will give us plenty of time to get info from sponsors and feedback from out guys........... Oct is one of the Best months to fish........... I know some of the Bow hunters will not be able to make it but thats part of the deal...in the outdoors world...........

Once Speckdaddy gets home we will set a date in Oct

does any one know when Bow season opens?

"W" 03-16-2010 04:05 PM

Looking at the 9th and 23rd of Oct...........Aug is just to soon....this takes lots of plannings and time.............

RaginCagin 03-16-2010 04:06 PM

Bow season opens October 1st. That will pretty much take me out of it but you gotta do what you can to get the most people involved.

Is it October YET? 03-16-2010 04:07 PM

October 15 in both La and Ms I believe.

Bow season always opens OCT. 1st in most of Louisiana and middle of September in some of the coastal parishes.

"W" 03-16-2010 04:13 PM

Well it comes down if you can sacrifice one day of bow hunting for a good cause in OCT...... This is the only thing about late year fishing is Hunting...... Im a big Duck Hunter myself but Nov is way to late for fishing with the start of cold fronts pushing down.....

I think Oct will bring a good or better crowed as Big Lake did..... Two days at most you will have to give the Fri and Sat or if you live close the Sat to fish......

Most will already have a week or two of bow hunting under there belt and Im not worried about squirrel season as that last until Feb.......

SULPHITE 03-16-2010 04:15 PM

Oh man this'll be my bday present!!! :D

wtretrievers 03-16-2010 04:17 PM

You're not going to make everyone happy, set a date & be done with it, my boys & I missed opening w/e of Turkey season last w/e. We survived! Don't regret it one one bit, suck it up!

I agree (never thought I'd say that). It's not like you're skipping a weekend of bow hunting for something useless or something you can't believe you're doing. It's to have a great time with a great group of people for an even greater cause! I'll gladly miss a weekend of sweating in a deer stand, swatting mosquitoes away & maybe seeing a couple of deer to participate in this weekend get together. Maybe that's just the way I see it but bow season lasts til the end of January so we will still have 3 months to get in the woods and try to stick a deer.
