Sabine Shootout

Not hearing anything about this anymore. Still going to happen?

ShadMan 04-26-2010 03:31 PM

Yep, there'll be more about it soon. ;)

BMTAngler 05-02-2010 01:48 PM

I cant wait for this :)

ShadMan 05-02-2010 02:44 PM

I just need to get more info about that ramp and RV park before I make anything official. I haven't had time to drive out there yet to look around and figure out the details.

BMTAngler 05-02-2010 11:12 PM

Doesnt the guy that owns the RV park post on 2cool?

ShadMan 05-03-2010 08:27 AM

His BIL does, but he doesn't know much about the park, etc. I already talked to the owner and everything sounds good, just wanna see it in person to make sure it is decent and to help with the logistics of what goes where. ;) I just need to get out there one weekend and take a bunch of pictures of the ramp, the RV park, the boat parking between the two, and find out who owns the ramp (city, I assume) and verify with them if we can weigh in there.

Shad, which park in reference? The one on pleasure island? If so, the city owns it - decent size lot, with two boat ramps...

ShadMan 05-03-2010 11:16 AM

Nah, this one is down near the pass, by the Coast Guard station. The RV park (Stay Awhile) is 3 blocks from the ramp. Looks like a nice, big ramp, and the owners would basically give us the run of the park. No need to shut 'er down at 10PM. :)

BMTAngler 05-03-2010 08:37 PM

Going Thursday I will take pics for you alright?

ShadMan 05-03-2010 08:49 PM

Thanks, bro!

Also, let me know if there is any place for boats to dock to weigh-in quickly and head back out. Now I just need to find out who owns/runs the ramp to see if we can do anything there.

BMTAngler 05-04-2010 10:06 PM

Hmmmm....Im thinking we should do the launch at the Yacht Club on Pleasure Island then if you want to do a quick weight-n-go type of deal. Ill take pictures of both spots and let you decide.

ShadMan 05-05-2010 08:32 AM

OK, thanks! Since Texans will be involved, we will likely offer a weight incentive for weighing in live fish and releasing them.

BMTAngler 05-05-2010 11:53 AM

After the weigh in locations are finalized, we need to figure what bar we are going to be closing down!

Shawn Braquet 05-05-2010 01:16 PM

does this mean us luuzianans cant weigh in 12" fish ? and we can't fry the 25" and larger ones for dinner ? sounds like a drag already, well im in

ShadMan 05-05-2010 01:20 PM

Rules are TBD at this time. ;)

Triton22 05-06-2010 08:27 AM

Ramp

If your talking about the 4 way in Sabine Pass. That is a county owned ramp. It does have lots of parking but not much room for a weigh in. The RV park on the island is a much better location for what your talking about. A come in and weigh and go. They also have two ramps and a nice parking area. The area around it is roomy for a weigh station.

Are you talking about Pleasure Island RV Park? There was some reason I didn't look into that place, but I can't remember why now. I'll go back and look at their rules again. One of the RV parks didn't allow any alcoholic beverages and one didn't allow any noise after 10PM, both of which would be a showstopper for us. :)

I used to launch at the Pleasure Island RV Park all of the time. Parking lot is nice and big, and the ramps are good. Boat ramp is set in a cove off of the lake, which makes it easy when the tide is ripping.

I would have to think that this is the RV park that doesn't allow noise after 10PM, as it seems like a lot of people live there permanently.

What about having an "after party" in Beaumont? Not familiar with the local establishments, but has to be some place to go.

Ray 05-10-2010 01:56 PM

Shadman, I sent you a name and email of someone who lives on the island. They can hook you up with what ever you need. They might even have a few who want to fish the tournament.

BossHog 05-10-2010 03:01 PM

So is this just a sabine tournament or can people run to biglake? Just something you may wanta clarify before rules start getting out.

BMTAngler 05-10-2010 07:15 PM

Info on the RV Park in Sabine, I forgot to charge my batteries when I went Thursday but that place is way way way to small for our rowdy asses to be in that area lol!
I think we should go with the RV Park over at Pleasure Island.
Also, after party info.
What are we looking to do, just a bar or eat and great? I can name some places to accommodate us.

Ray 06-11-2010 12:03 AM

How is this progressing?

meaux fishing 06-11-2010 12:16 AM

yeah whats the deal... i know absolutely nothing about Sabine... but i will be there

Gerald 06-11-2010 09:36 AM

When Big Lake gets too much rain water.....I sometime head over to Sabine.

I have had fairly good luck catching Trout in the north end of the lake around the small platforms.

BMTAngler 06-11-2010 11:17 AM

Lets just say Sabine is hot right now....

skeeter77346 06-11-2010 05:08 PM

Sabine

Birds have been working in main lake and the Light House area has been holding good trout on Chart/bone/silver tops early and soft plastics (plum/chart rat-tails) later. (BUT, be careful in LightHouse inside the channel markers - shallow random shell spoil area, guts hold fish though) Lots of bait, big schools of small pogies getting smashed. Jetty bite should also be on soon.
LA shoreline from N to S - hit the bayous and cuts and watch for bird action.
Good luck.

ShadMan 06-11-2010 06:17 PM

It's still on, I've just been busy. More to come soon.

Big Kahunaz 06-14-2010 05:52 PM

Forget it....sounds like a pain....just host it on The Bend!! ;-)
