Seeing some large bands of teal

In the marshes just to the east of Paris road in Chalmette, there are some very large bands of teal showing up. And, I've seen an unusually high amount of Greenwings amongst em.

Seemed like last year we shot alot more greenwings than normal during the first split of big duck. I don't recall shooting any during teal season though.

Went to my blind in kaplan yesterday and saw about 10-15 flocks of teal... smallest flock had 7.... largest looked to have close to 30-40! Getting pumped up!!!!

We shot like 5-7 Gw for teal season

I saw a lot of teal too but also a bunch of greys and mottled ducks.
First there will be some doves to take care of.
It's hot in the marsh and there are tons of mosquitoes.
Will finish brushing blinds later.

My blind is north of Kaplan about 3-4 miles... off of HWY 35. This is the first year in about 7-10 years I have seen them like that.. hopefully that means that they will stick around for the season.

Thats exactly where we are 4.2 miles from 14. We have been seeing a few but nothing like last year this time. When i say a few i mean we saw 4 total this morning.

I noticed more crawfish ponds than last yr too.

MarshRat89 09-05-2013 07:37 PM

Yea alot more water all around there this year. That was one of the reasons I think we did so good last year. But hopefully all the property going to sugar cane will help.

jpcajun 09-05-2013 08:35 PM

last year at our place, they were spotty.... singles and double coming in every now and then but the one time i went out there and looked, there were quite a few large flocks. In years past, nothing like what I saw a couple days ago for sure!

marshrat, where is your blind at? On 35? If so, where at? what other roads are near there? I am right by you then!
