Went with the Bass Pro because it came with a year no questions asked warranty. I have never used a bait cast, only tried my hand at it with a buddies once and it was a mess. I didn't want to get something cheap and ruin my experience or jade me so I got something nice, and the one year no questions asked warranty sold me. Ill give this set up a season to try to get the hang of it, if not, Ill take it back and go back to my spin cast, as per the recommendation of the bass pro personnel.

Set it up with 40lb braided. Not that I need that heavy duty, but was told on the bait cast that much smaller and you run the chance of the line being pulled through the line coiled up on the drum. wasn't any more in cost so I went with 40.

Now if anyone out there has any tips please feel free to chime in! thanks

I know what Im doing this weekend!!:D

I taught my nephew when he was 7 and my grandson when he was 8 . I put a 1/2 ounce weight and a piece of rag about 3/4 in. x 4 in. so they could see it fly through air . Put a bucket out in the yard and let them have at it. Practice , Practice , Practice.....PS. I hate braid.....14# original stren for everything but perch n sacalait....

Tighten down on the spool tension adjustment some before you start. You won't be able to cast far but shouldn't backlash either. As you get the hang of it loosen up on the tension knob.

Start filling the spool with mono then tie a uni knot to the braid and finish spooling.

Hold your pole at a 45 degree angle with your bait hanging down. Start out with something that weighs 1/4 oz. Set your brakes so that when you pressthe thumb button, the bait slowly falls.

Right before the bait hits the ground, press your thumb on the spool to stop the spool from spinning.

BPS reel is slick and lightweight and it should help you out as your new baitcaster. I was expecting a guy in a jumpsuit. I guess that was before the "Bass fishermen" wore jumpsuits. The old garcias are still around and I have some that are 30+ years old. I wish I would have kept the old 2500c reels.

Well Im really enjoying this new set up, I picked up the bait cast no problem! I have noticed one thing I have done a few times and I need to correct it, once the bait hits the water I crank the handle, thus I get this hard CLUNK in the reel, need to stop that. I have only done it a few times, but Im sure its not good for the reel.

Ill be heading to my local fish shop again to pick up another set up!!

Great job man i am a Mono filament guy myself but just keep practicing start with it tighter like they said and just loosen as you get the hang of it. just keep a slight feel on your spool with your thumb dont even touch the handle to real until it has hit. your spool will slow that when you know to start thumbing down. Good luck man.

Please tell me what was your FIRST bait cast reel? Did it come with a 1 yr no question asked return? Please enlighten me with the wisdom that this policy or reel is "POO" I mean really? I bought the best "Bass Pro" has WITH a YEAR to return it, how could I go wrong?

Opinions are like a$$holes. Everybody has one and most of them stink. Personally I'm a lews reel guy. Again, my opinion, my preference. But i have owned all kinds and found something that i like. Nothing wrong with what you have now. Later you may upgrade or you might love that reel and never have anything else.
