One factor not considered that is impacting the harvest is that rising fuel costs and imported shrimp have most shrimp boats working closer to their home ports than in the past. Harvest areas of shrimp respond to market pressures more than other seafoods, so that the shrimp numbers do not reflect natural abundance as well as the crab and oyster numbers.
