Amite River and Bayou Manchac

Anyone ever fish in this area? I can run about 15 minutes up the road and launch close to where the 2 meet. Out here testing out the new pirogue today. Just wondering if there is any good fishing to be had here.

Very rarely. I mean if you gonna catch fish in that area that's prolly the best spot but over all it's very overfished. Tht point has someone on it every single day and there's always another boat screwing around waiting till that one gives up. Upper amite isn't the bet for fishing unless u run trotlines for cats. Where you live? I love right on walker south just below 12

I live in Prairieville, about 5 minutes from Port Vincent.

Ah, thanks for the offer, but we will be in Lake Charles this weekend for Easter. Heading over tomorrow morning.

Bayou manchac is a poor choice...

Over flow ponds and drainages north of bayou manchac are spot on though

FF_T_Warren 04-18-2014 07:49 PM

Like down bayou manchac or the ponds on the sides of the river?

choupiquesushi 04-18-2014 07:56 PM

Ponds and drainages off river

FF_T_Warren 04-18-2014 07:58 PM

I've tried one of those ponds but didn't catch nothin

Smalls 04-18-2014 08:34 PM

Is Manchac just over fished or somethin? Seems like it would be good.

I'll have to check out some of those ponds and drainages I guess.

FF_T_Warren 04-18-2014 08:56 PM

Overfished

choupiquesushi 04-18-2014 08:57 PM

Manchac has serious water quality and DO Problems.....not overfishing

FF_T_Warren 04-18-2014 09:00 PM

Makes sense. In my limited experience with the Bayou its become obvious that many of the residents are not concerned with the quality of it. Its a shame really, with the historical significance of it. It could be a really nice place.

I agree, have lived in the area past 30+ years, never had any good trips there...

Smalls 04-21-2014 09:17 AM

So is the Amite any good at least?

FF_T_Warren 04-21-2014 10:54 AM

I run some lil hoopnets and catch some decent cats

sam vitter 04-21-2014 12:40 PM

Yeah, figured that.

I think I'll do a lot after work. Its a quick run from the house to the river.
