Im thinking about getting my first handgun and was thinking maybe a .22? Any thoughts? I can probably spend $200-250. Opinions?

Depending on what you are getting it for you may want to go bigger. What are you getting if for?

right now just for practice and small game....

For a .22, I'd recommend a Ruger Mk III or a Colt Woodsman.

If you're thinking of personal protection in any way, a .22 is not really an option. Go .380 or better.

For your price range however, I'd recommend a revolver. You can get a nice .22 revolver made by H&R for pretty cheap. I believe it's the Sportsman model. It's a neat little plinker.

Browning Buckmark or if your a revolver guy, a Ruger Single Six

Well it looks like coachlaw covered what I would recommend. My first handgun was a .40 cal. and I would buy the same if I had to do it again. You can get a Tarus 24/7 .40 cal. for around $350.00 at Academy which is a well rounded gun. I think when you get that little .22 in your hand you will want something bigger even more. I know you want to only spend a couple hundred but think about it hard cause if you serious about getting a hand gun you will end up getting a bigger one in the long run.

You know, I forgot about the Browning Buckmark. I'd think a Single Six would not really be what he's looking for. It's a great little plinker, but if you want to target shoot, and think about small game, a Single Six probably isn't the ticket.
