Snapper report

We headed out to the lump today. There have been a few tuna both yellow and black fin. Nothing spectacular but we had to run through the 93's and had hoped for some wahoo. The 1-2 seas forecast were Soooooo wrong. The winds were honking as soon as I stepped out of the house. Throughout the day the seas settled down. On our first rig we went 0 for 1 on the hoo's. The other rigs gave up nothing and the grass moved in making it very hard to pull baits. A while later 2 boats came in behind us and hit a few at the first rig. That kind of set the pace for us.

Instead of hitting 143 Mike wanted to go straight to the lump and set up. There was no shortage of bonito. I did notice an occasional blackfin run through but no matter what size bait I used they kept passing it up. Our first fish in the box was a good almaco jack.

That is a 40 pound bag of ice next to it just for comparison. There was little to no current. The sharks were very thick and we actually landed an amberjack head. After loosing almost 50 hooks we gave up and went to plan B. We hit a few more rigs but once again the grass was messing up our trolling lures. With one almaco in the box we hit a close up rig for red snapper.

Now we had some fish box action! They were already beat up by all the bonito and sharks but got right back into the swing once the red snapper woke up. That is right it took about 10 minutes before they found us but once they did it was game on.

We came in with 1 almaco and a limit of snapper to show for the day. It was definitely an action filled day on the water.

Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
