sabine refuge and out boards??

Well just brushed up on the rules and regs for sabine refuge. It states that the use of motors are prohibited in the marsh except the canals has anyone heard any different I don't see me push poling or trolling across there any time soon. But would love to hear any advice or further info on this please

They're allowed in the marsh, only in designated areas. I don't have the map anymore or I would post it. But you can pretty much run anywhere you want and do whatever you want out there. There's no enforcement, therefore there's no rules.

And to be clear, I'm not placing blame on the Wardens for not doing their job. They are understaffed, and asked to cover too much.

you cant do anything you want, but you can motor all areas south of central canal and west of trappers cabins, all colored areas including north back ridge area

We've been coming in from the back and hunting that 5 lakes area and doing real good on mallards and pintails. Even got a nice body of geese in there as of late. Really no one else hunting in there I guess people don't want to take that long boat ride.

Its been a few years since I hunted that area, but its a short ride up the cowboy ditch.:D

Sooo if your hunting 4Mile Square and your not killing birds, you have options.

Top Dawg 12-30-2014 11:48 AM

Yes. I can't believe were the only ones in there with the amount of birds. We've sunk 3 blinds in there so when one gets slow we let it rest. Shootin the same blind 6 days a week is a little too much pressure.

Buddy of mine hunts Lacassine Flyway and he stopped hunting his blind because ducks so thick on Sabine. Showed me pics and nothing but red-legged flight mallards too.

Where we are with no Ducks for 2 years in a row !

BGcoreg 12-30-2014 05:27 PM

Be careful with the outboards in those lakes, I've already towed In a couple from screwing up lower units.

Thats not what I've heard! Just wondering a geographical location so I know where the hell people are talking about. I'm not trying to hunt there I got my own spot.

I've hit some objects out there with my prodrive that would've ripped the lower unit smooth off an outboard. Ripped the tiller right out my hand too, glad to have a kill switch on.

I've heard that there's stuff out there and always think about it when I'm running but haven't had it happened yet. Hopefully never

If you go straight south of the Trapper's shack to the South Line canal, the Four Mile Square hunting lease is south and west of the canal. It is owned by Apache Petroleum. On the aerial photos you can see the outline of the canals around it. Most access is to turn north off Hwy 82 before you get to Constance Beach. Apache owns everthing south of the South Line canal and west of Hwy 27 to the west side of 4 mile square. Bill Dore owns the 18,000 acres west of 4 mile.

Just wondering but isn't five lakes closed to hunting? Or did I miss read the signs and thanks for all the info guys we've been running as far west as I can stand with my long tail

catching_hale 01-06-2015 03:57 PM

Old north bayou lake but never fails my boats so slow some one always follows me in and sets up 100 to 200 yards from me and blows till he's blue in the face lol

The 5 Lakes area on that map is the impoundment which is closed to duck hunting...

I think old Topdawg may be pulling a joke... saying he is hunting 6 days a week and sinking a blind which are both also illegal

Question: I usually put in down valstar road(whatever the walk in/kayak spot is) and hunt north of there. I know you can't have trailers on that road but could you have a boat with a small outboard?
