Almost passed out LMAO....on these comments:*****::*****::*****:

i am sure everyone has their reason too fish for them. i would bet their number one reason is because it just might be the biggest fish they catch all year!

i really never target them but if i catch some 15 to 18" they are better eating than redfish, anything over 18" i'll toss back & they do put up a good fight.

They're a challenge to catch, wading w/ artys, plus the 15-18" are some good eat'n. For a fresh fish dinner, I'll take em over reds or trout.

simple......easy to catch and anything between 15" and 18" tastes better than a redfish or trout

I target them once or twice a year. During the spring run if temps are mild it's great fun for the family or group. They fight hard on light tackle and if you find some small ones or pick up some sheepshead as a bonus you've got some great eating. I've caught some large sheepshead while targeting drum and they're top notch.

so after reading all your replies. I have never caught one or tried. When and where are the best times and places to targer them? Plus what do you use to catch them?

I like to mix up the species and fishing methods to keep things fresh. It is almost time to anchor up and toss out some bait which I only do when targeting the big uglies....they should start running any day now in the corpus area.

DRUM tournament...:*****::*****::*****:

FREON 02-17-2011 10:48 AM

Turning Point is an organization that provides outdoor activities for physically challenged people. This particular tourney takes people who are in wheel chairs, are missing arms/legs, etc. fishing. You still think its funny?

I didnt know that and i think that is a great thing. Why not a redfish tourney though? cause Texans love drum...;)

What's wrong with liking drum? I don't target them, but on the rare occasion I get one I sure don't throw it back. Fun fight anyhow.

W thinks only trout are edible. That's why he keeps his limit every time he goes.

He must eat them everyday

this thread is classy.

Red Devil 03-17-2011 06:28 PM

This thread proves what a tool W is. I guess you have to own a Haynie and fish with a Waterloo and a Curado to be in the status quo? Last time I checked, fishing is a hobby and a sport REGARDLESS of species. But to put people down for catching and liking to eat drum, is just plain wrong. Just callin it like I see it.

The haynie is a relatively new edition, heard a lawyer had somthing to do with it, he was pimping a 14 ft see otter or something like that before he moved up to a big boy toy.:D

I have never eaten a black drum or a gaspergou, but have eaten other drum = redfish, SPECKLED TROUT, so they can't be bad. I have never had a problem with having fish to eat, but for people who only go a few times a year, they wanna load up on meat. It wasn't too long ago I remember a sheephead was a 'trash fish', believe it or not many offshore fishermen considered TUNA trash also:eek:

Hear mullet is great too, but I ain't had it, had gar once, it was awesome. Catch a goggleye and keep it in north Louisiana you will probably get laughed at also, people target them down here.

'W'hat a boring life it would be if everyday you were able to go fishing you went to one lake to fish and targeted only one species of fish:grinpimp:.
I like a little variety

Hopedale Hustler 03-18-2011 01:18 PM

No offshore guide looks at yellow or blue fin as trash I can tell ya that now....black fin and bonito are trash even though black fin can be good it is commonly verry oily and bonito is just bait...

And channel mullet is amazing especially fresh when you catch them in the surf...

Tuna - no they don't anymore, but they were once trash that got on their baits while they were trolling for 'better fish'. There used to be zero boats targeting tuna in Venice, now its a madhouse. And thats another thing, blackfin tuna are prized in some areas, they keep bonita in Florida! And king macherel too! I don't hate on em for it, let em eat

Hopedale Hustler 03-18-2011 01:50 PM

Oh yeah bruh if a mans hungry let him eat....I eat blackfin at the camp...we usually keep 1 or 2 for dinner...

Its just that most of us probably are not gonna starve if we don't catch fish:)

"W" 03-18-2011 04:35 PM

So we will start a new organization in Texas..save the Drum
