I'm pretty proud of my backyard project and thought I'd brag a little. I started tearing out all trees and landscaping to bare dirt in the backyard, tearing out the existing screen and supporting roof with 10x10 cypress beams. Then poured a slab, installed flagstone paver tiles for flooring, stacked stone veneered cinder block retaining walls capped with flagstone, stacked stone wrapped island and leather finish granite counter top.

Hey Dave let us know when it's ready so we can have a little get together, like at the camp.

I took these pics tonight. I'm pumped about the landscaping and lighting! I'm nervous about my choice of 12" cedar planks for fencing. I saw someone's gate with real wide planks and looked nicer than the more normal width planks. We'll top the fence off with a cap for a finished modern look.
I'm having the house re-roofed and the patio covering framed up next week so they tie in together. The angle is a lean-to instead of gable and meeting up with the house high enough to get a proper pitch. The height at the end of the run, at the retaining wall should be about 8-9 feet. I'm using the 8x8 cypress beams pictured. Trying to figure out the best screen to use in color and material. There will be two big entrance doors meeting the driveway and a door for each of the steps going into the yard and one to the right of the island. I'm hoping to have the screen on top of the island as to not have the screen covering the island back walls. If I can, maybe a backsplash could work also?

Looks real nice Dave.

I need to do something with my backyard. I guess I should start saving my pennies. That looks really good.

That's impressive!

weedeater 03-29-2013 07:16 AM

that looks awsome, where did you get the wide cedar boards? I am gonna be fencing in my yrd at my new house and want to put 8' fence and those would work nice plus I plan on doing an outdoor kitchen and a brick/ rod iron patio area.

copper screen would look nice and blend in once it weathers

BayBolt23 03-29-2013 07:21 AM

Ok, I think we have that at the camp and didn't realize it would patina. I guess it takes a couple or years or so.

Thanks for all the compliments!
I can't wait till the roof gets finished. I'll have the cypress tongue and groove ceilings, can lights and lots of ceiling fans, recessed speakers and a flat screen tv or two. I thought about a small one for the cooking area and a large one by the entrance doors.

david79thomas 03-29-2013 08:10 AM

Is there a way to speed up the patina process?
