What a great spring and early summer we have had here on Lake Calcasieu. In lieu of early rains and some on again off again winds we have had the best three months of catching we have had in the last 5 years or so. Basically the hottest action has come from the far south end of the lake. High tides have kept the fresh water up to the north and catching has been very good to the south. Very good catches of solid trout have been coming from the short rigs in the gulf and the rock along the beach when the clean water gets that far in. A lot of bird action continues in the lake and west cove with live shrimp and soft plastics being the best baits. Mirroure makes eel type bait called “Little John” that has been very good rigged under a lead head.
