Shorthaired Retrievers?

Any of you guys that duck hunt timber use GSP's to retrieve? I have a female GSP she loves to hunt and retrieve but I've never duck hunted her here in NC cause of the cold and long open water retrieves. Thought maybe the climate down there would be better suited for her.

I actually know 2 guys in Va that hunt GSP's for ducks. Well, one is now out of the military and the other is on the ship with me. Both seem to handle the cold water well. They both wore those neoprene vests both times I hunted with them and then soon after, the dog was in the front with the seat warmers on while both us 200lb fuly grown dudes were wedged in the back with the guns and birds lol.

My golden retriever seems to handle both climates well. I hunted her in -2 wind chill in January 2015 up towards Williamsburg Va. Haven't gotten the chance to actually hunt her in La yet.

Run that dog, the cold won't bother and long retrieves aren't a big deal - they're built pretty well for it.

Put a vest on her to help with buoyancy and some added warmth

Man that is one high intensity breed. My bro-in-laws will come back from a 7-10 mile run and still go chase birds in the back yard and run circles around my lab.

Mine will follow me through the mud and heat on 5-10 mile runs through the deer lease and I know sh travels twice that going back and forth. So much energy!

I don't duck hunt much but I got mine a vest for when it's cold and she will be working in the water.
