lab breeder

Looking to buy a lab pup in the next few months. Anyone have any recommendations on a good breeder? I'm looking for an English lab

Why an English lab?

CajunChristian 08-11-2016 08:51 AM

I agree, WHY an English? English make great show dogs. I have trained a few English bred labs, for the most part they lack the drive of a well bred lab. By well bred, with good FC, AFC, NFC, NAFC, or similar ancestors. And before the flak starts,,,, I can take any Field Trial washout and make an excellent duck dog, can't take a great duck dog and pass a field trial.

I really just prefer the look of them. My first lab was an English lab that I got from a family friend and hes been a great dog

I don't know of any English breeders. If you wanted some American Field lines, I could point you in a few directions depending on price.

what breeders do you know. English is my preference but id look into American too

Price range?

I didn't know much about English labs, had to google them, didn't realize there was such a difference in build.

When I was younger we had a chocolate from Gatorpoint Kennels, he had a very distinct English appearance. They might be worth looking into if your wanting the English type look.

Good Luck

Both sites are a very good starting point. Find a litter from two parents that you like from a reputable breeder with health clearances. Let the Breeder pick the puppy for you.

Buddy of mine has 2 English labs. He got them from a guy he works with. I think breeds them. If you want I can see about it for you.

really not sure what I should expect with price range. I probably don't want to pay more than1000-1200 but I haven't bought a lab in a while so I'm not exactly sure what a dog with a good pedigree is going for right now

seachaser250 08-11-2016 10:30 AM

Based on your price range I would look in the 700-800 range. You can get a puppy from a sire and dam with a heavy titled pedigree for that price.

Check those two links I posted. There are a lot of quality dogs on there and the risk of puppy mill or back yard type breeding is slim to none. For that price you should have health certificates on hips, eyes and elbows. Don't limit yourself geographically, good breeders will work out delivery logistics.

I have a brother that trains and raise labs in Lake Arthur. He has some great hunting and field trial dogs.

I picked up a English lab 18 months ago in Mississippi. Read good things about them, paid 1200. Beautiful Red Fox color. I've never seen a smarter dog. For a long time I was concerned about her drive, then all of a sudden at 10-11 months BAM! You couldn't stop her. Had a guy training her and she was progressing great, and would have been ready for duck season last nov. but ate rat poison and we almost lost her. Started training again in Feb. and she was well on her way, then disaster hit....she has BAD hip dysplasia. Now she's a house dog. So I can't recommend where we got her. They specifically said none of their dogs ever had dysplasia. I don't know enough about it, but we're disappointed for the dog. She loves to fetch, but after playing she can't put weight on her rear leg.
