Whooping Cranes

I know we have a small resident population of Whooping Cranes and most are concentrated to the Cameron Parish area, and I have viewed them there. I have lived near Kaplan for 7 years now and faithfully ride the backroads and highways to see what I can see. On April 21, 2014 I saw my 1st Whooping Crane North East of Kaplan off of Hwy 700 nearly in Leroy. This is the first time I ever observed one in this area. I only saw it that day, the next day it was gone. Just wanted to share this, however I do have a question if any interested parties reading this. Would the LDWF&F like sightings such as this reported? If so is there a 24 hr number available?

I'd call them and let them know. If you see it there multiple times, they would definitely be interested. That gives them an indication that there is something about that area that is favorable to the bird. The landscape is a lot different than when cranes were here nearly a century ago.

I'd try calling white lake since that is where they were released from. 337-536-9400
