Stolen Boat

2 Attachment(s)
My father-n-law's boat was stolen this past weekend from his office in New Iberia. It is a 25' Shearwater w/ a Mercury Verado 300. If you have any info please contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department. See attached pictures.

Damn, hate to hear that. what a beautiful rig.

That's terrible! Seems like every time I turn on local news that something always going on in new Iberia!

Damn that sucks! Anyone with expensive toys should be using a SPOT Trace device. Only $99 a year for service and track your possessions through GPS.

Thats gut wrenching for sure!! Yep, the Berry is getting worse all the time. Punks hitting the unlocked cars on a nightly basis now.

And when a few end up getting shot over it they will try and prosecute the owner of the item they were trying to take. Then the family will be all over the news saying how much of a good kid he was!!!!

Boat was recovered in Slidell on the shoulder of an I-12 on ramp. No damage to anything but the plug for the lights. Very odd to take a boat of that magnitude just to haul it 2.5 hrs and leave it on the side of the interstate.

EasyFishin 07-25-2017 10:32 AM

Nothing worst than a piece of crap thief!!

That's weird maybe they got cold feet. I'm wondering how someone would unload a stolen boat like that.

Glad you got it back!

Probably someone on Parole that the Governor has decided to release from prison.

glad to hear he got his boat back and it's not all tore up. lucky!!!!!

that's the kind of stuff that happens to a town when they disband their city police dept.

Since im not a thief and dont understand how things of that nature work, i dont understand what someone would do with a boat like that after they stole it. You couldnt get it registered and couldnt really use it. There are serial numbers all over the motor. Seems kinda compicated to get rid of and risky to use if you decided to keep it. I just dont understand...Hopefully they dropped it after their transmission started to slip...

Glad he got it back!!!

I just had 4 new tires, 1 hub, and all the bearings replaced 3 weeks ago. If they would have tried it before that they wouldn't have made it to Lafayette. I inspected everything really well before I hooked up to it at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Dept. and it all looked great. So I rolled it back to New Iberia going 70-75 mph with the F-250. No incidents so we know it wasn't the trailer that broke. Like you said probably a old under-powered truck that took it and broke down. We got really lucky.

My guess would be either stated above theories. Truck issues, or maybe it was some guys that took a while to realize they were in a whole other league than stolen stereos with that boat.

Glad you got it back. Sucks the guys probably won't be punished. Karma will work it out.

Usually strip and sell piece by piece. Do it in a storage shed or remote location.

youmyboyblue 07-27-2017 08:49 PM

They typically do drop it off somewhere and a buyer picks it up, but not on side of an interstate.

I had a Bass boat stolen once , took it right out of the driveway. Next day at the door , guy with hat in hand , said he brought it back . Sure enough put it right back in the drive. Nothing touched or broken. He said he sobered up and realized what a screwup he did . I wasnt home but my wife ran him off , got his tag number and we found him. I told the sheriff to scare the hell outta him but i didnt file on him ...........maybe he learned something ? who knows??
