Motor Help

Tore into a 15 year old tiller that hasn't ran in 10 years this morning..
Im decent when it comes to working on motors at times, but here's my dilema..

Pulled the carbs, cleaned, pulled air filter cleaned, knocked every dirt dobber nest known to man kind off.

Can get it to fire but won't stay running, don't think im getting suction, when I go to prime it, it doesn't seem to get "Primed"

Hope my question makes sense?

Like I said, not the best mechanic but can do the basics.

Carb Cleaner

LaAngler 06-02-2011 12:35 PM

sounds like it needs new fuel hose, open tank cap vent, fresh gas, maybe spray some starter fluid in the carbs?

I'll check the hoses, drained old fuel, added newly mixed. Bout to soak the carbs

Lol. Its keeping me busy today.. felt like working on something and this is makin me mad lol.

huntin fool 06-02-2011 01:24 PM

Its the carbs. Can spray a little gas directly in and runs like a champ.

Bout to pull this little devil off and soak it

Edit**** When I go to prime it, It's straight air. So a leak??

Jordan 06-02-2011 01:44 PM

Brayden, make sure the primer bulb dont have a hole in it. I had a weedeater that had a pin hole in it, and that was stopping it from getting primed

huntin fool 06-02-2011 02:15 PM

This is making me mad lol.. It's sucking air, so theres bound to be a leak

outdoorsman 06-02-2011 07:27 PM

You should be able to get the fuel line and primer ball you need from a shop that deals with small engins. With the lines being that old they are rotted out.

huntin fool 06-02-2011 08:17 PM

Just pulled the lines and ran pressured air thru them.. No clog.

Clean the diaphram (sp) on the carb, sprayed power tune through out the carb (best stuff on the market can sit and watch the junk bubble out..

still no complete run. Can get it to fire by spraying into carb, but thats all..

Friggin smallest engine and I can't diagnose whats wrong

Ducktrickster 06-02-2011 08:38 PM

fuel line problem....got a leak somewhere.

wtretrievers 06-02-2011 08:46 PM

Still got crap in the carb....if it's been sittin up it's varnished over.....doesn't take but a tee tiny piece to screw up those small jets in the carb...pull jets & blow high pressure air & clean with a tip cleaner for a torch or a piece of wire from a wire brush, also check the primer bulb if it has one, they get hard & crack after sittin up....may have to soak a couple times also.....try Chemtool B-12 that's some goooood stuff.

make sure your float is opening and closing correctly, if float stays open it will not prime and it will flood your motor. and Don't use cheap attwood fitings they're made cheap, I replaced mine with moeller from west marine and no more problems with cracked fittings that don't fit right.
