Rod Storage
I have a 2004 Sea Fox 195 Bay Fisher and the only way to store my rods is vertical on each side of the console. I would like to store them on the side of walls and I noticed some Rod Savers on eBay but I was kind of hoping to find something a little cleaner looking. I have looked into some inserts but you have to cut a big hole and it only stores a few rods. Any recommendations?

I'm not familiar with that boat. A google image search showed one with completely flat gunwhales. If that's the case nothing will look very clean.
Can you post a pic of your interior? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |
That is exactly what it looks like, I can get one when I get home. That was my fear, something sticking out looking funky....haha

I had a similar boat that had the gunnel side cut out and an insert installed. I had room for 4 rods. This is not a picture of my boat but you can see the insert.https://www.thehulltruth.com/attachm...0&d=1504631729

I was looking at those but was worried about cutting a huge hole in the boat....lol. I like the idea of being able to store them out of the way.

Gunnel
That is not a structural part of the boat. Cutting it out will not make your boat weaker. The rolled gunnel boats don't even have a liner like that.

I know, it is just the idea of sawing a hole in a perfectly good boat...lol

Sawing a Hole in the Boat
Advice given to me when I was building my boat -It is nothing but a thang!
Measure twice, make sure there is nothing behind that you will cut (wires, gas hose, etc), make your cuts, and if you don't like it, glass it back in. |
Boat Modification
This is not my boat! Way off topic but if you are interested in cutting up a boat and adding 5' of length to it after you spent 2 years building it get out your Sawzall and check this out:

I think I would have a panic attack if I had to do that....lmao. My rod storage all of the sudden isn't so bad.
