Opening Weekend
1 Attachment(s)
It's been unusually quiet leading up to opening weekend. How'd everyone do? We finished up opening morning with 17 total. 2 greys, 3 woodies (unusual on our lease), and the rest GWT. I didn't hunt this morning, but the others got 4 woodies. Saturday was fast and furious for about an hour then someone turned the light switch off.
We didn't lay the smack down on em, but it made a damn fine meal. Attachment 113154 |
Was awesome in South East part of state in my neck of marsh. Limits both days with mix of greys and teal with a couple token pins and mottleds.

We had 24 before 7:00 Sat and only 8 Sun. Didn't see many.

I live in the lacassine/welsh area. I heard one shot saturday and a distant shot sunday! Other than that nothing! Makes me worry a bit! Usually sounds like a war zone!

I speck hunted the East zone Sat, could have killed everyone's mallards and pins over 8 speck decoys. Talk about hurt you deep down.. |
My oldest and I shot our 12 sat but it took until 9'down in Jb. Sunday was slower and much less shooting from everyone we talked to

Limits both days in GC south of highway. Teal everywhere with greys and widgeon. Finished before 8:00am Sat and Sunday.

Been slow in the mashes in Boston,La very few birds around. Hoping the next front pushes some more ducks down. Hopefully when the other zones open this weekend it will push some more birds into the area.

Hope you are right Quack. I'm not a fan of the 3 zones!!

Same here Dogface. It never made any sense to me that they decide to open the most southern zone first. One good thing is it looks like we going to get some temps back in the 60's and we usually always smash the teal when the south wind blows. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Any idea why the greenwing teal are down and we didn't even see any blue wing?

It's been about even in our marsh but no really big numbers. Now on the other hand the wood ducks are there in huge numbers. Never seen so many in all the years I've hunted that marsh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lots of BW Teal at the Wax. Had a couple like this also.

swla
Hunted the wax Saturday and sunday, 3 man limit all teal Saturday and 9 teal and a mottle for 2 people sunday. I wish people would realize a shotgun cannot hit a duck 150 yards high, the idiots were in full force. Any sabine reports? heard they thick south of there but have not seen any reports from the refuge.

Like what? I see a blue wing teal what am I missing? |
Quote:
Only reports I got were the folks south of there reported the parking lots full at sabine when they were on they're way home with limits. |
Quote:
that's not surprising, they always have a parking lot slap full regardeless of how the hunting is, 3/4 of em are clueless. |
4 man limit Saturday and Sunday in PI. Half teal with mostly greys. Few mallards, 2 woodies, and a few tree ducks.
