Tohatsu50hp / weldbilt 1648v setup/props

Ok I've got a new 50hp 4stroke Tohatsu tiller and weldbilt1648v with atlas micro jacker hooked the bottom of the boat to make the boat hold the nose up and running Yamaha painted stainless 16p prop boat by myself with tank and battery in the back of boat will run 43-45mph at rev limiter 6150rpm however with 2nd person boat will not hold the nose up and run like it should it lays down and rpms drop to 5600 at around 38-39mph need advice on what to do with setup and what to do prop wise to go faster maybe someone with a similar setup can chime in thanks

How did it run before you hooked the hull?

My son had the same issue with the same set as you have. He got with Cajun Christian and put a hook in the bottom of his boat and it solved the problem.

Not stating it will fix your problem, just letting you know what worked for him.

10-4 on that Cajun Christian is actually who helped me get too where I am now I just don't now if I need more hook to handle the extra weight or what but hooking the boat made a huge difference

Anyone on here going fast with a weldbilt I would love too no what the tricks are

The Yamaha prop is a semi cleaver with 4 degrees rake. Rake gives you bow lift. Try a PowerTech SRD, it has 20 degrees rake. That will help to raise the bow when loaded using rake. The Yamaha is a 10 3/8 inch diameter prop, the SRD is an 11.25" diameter. The SRD will run about 1.5" higher on the boat than the Yamaha. The added blade area of the SRD helps the prop carry a load very well. I sold all 3 of my Yamaha props and bought 2 new SRD's. I run a lower pitch in the marsh and 1" more pitch in the river. I need the hole shot in the marsh, in the river....not so much. I tested the SRD on several different boats with that 4 stroke 40/50. In every instance, it out performed the Yamaha prop on hole shot, and top end.

That's easy, the weldbilt is an 80 gauge hull where most others are 100 gauge. I have had a couple 1548 weldbilts and a couple 1552 weldbilts. The 1548 weighs 300 pounds. My Ambush weighs 420 pounds. The advantage of that is that I won't be changing boats again soon. EVERY weldbilt I owned broke welds. The extra weight of the 100 gauge on an Ambush is offset by the hull design, that's why they are called "high performance" hulls, because they are.
Here's a short video of my Ambush maiden voyage. I ran out of propeller, it was on the rev limiter the whole time. This is a hull with me, tank, and battery.

Thanks for advice Cajun what pitch prop would you recommend in that power tech srd based on my current info running the painted stainless 16p

Marshgoat 05-01-2016 08:25 PM

The black Yamaha is the best prop I've run on my 50 Mercury 2 stroke. Added a little cup and it has terrific holeshot and fast top end. I was thinking of trying the bigger diameter semi cleaver "SCA" but now you guys have my attention with the SRD.

4strokepower 05-01-2016 09:20 PM

I talked with Cajun on the phone today and like he posted he said it out performed the Yamaha every so it must be a good one

What kind of speeds are you getting out of your rig

since we are talking props..

CC, i am now with a stock 3 hole merc on 18x42 tunnel, with a powertech scb4 15p. as great as this is on the get up, i am a snail on the top side.

That is not usable data. Only answer I can give to your question is "no clue". Anyone that can answer your question with that data BEWARE!

That said, I know for a fact a stock 40hp merc on an 1842 tunnel will not turn a 15 pitch prop efficiently.

You can get those small tachs for around 50 bucks from eBay

Marshgoat 05-02-2016 01:37 PM

Stock 50 Mercury 2 stroke on 18x50 1/8 welded flat runs 39 with lightly cupped black Yamaha prop at 5600 rpms. Not looking for a rocket ship, its a fishing/hunting rig and I doubt I can do much better than that on a heavy boat. The prop game can get expensive chasing a minimal gain in mph.

4strokepower 05-02-2016 03:33 PM

Where does everyone get there props worked I no none
