Excel (Viper hull) vs Xpress

Can anybody give me a comparison of the two? I've hunted from a 1650 Xpress with a 50 yam for the last 10 yrs. Now it's time for a new boat and I really like what I see in the Excel as far as layout goes.

I've got likes and dislikes about the Xpress and the hyperlift hull. It turns like it is on rails, and cuts rough water much better than the flat bottoms that I've had in the past. But it does draft a lot of water at idle, and it's a little slower to plane. I'm not sold on the concept of pad hull under a duck boat either.....I don't think 50 HP is enough to get on pad. And the Xpress has had a seam split open and took some welding to close it back up.

How does the Excel Viper hull compare speed-wise? Rough water ride, holeshot, handling?

Thinking about going up a size to a 1751 with a 60 (probably a new merc 4 stroke). Any idea what I'd be looking at speed wise? I know it's not going to run with an edge, havoc, etc., but at the same time I don't want a turd.

Thanks

How fast do you want to go? That's a good sized boat. You could probably run 75-90 on it.

I have a 70 on my 17.5x60 and do 40.

My guess with a 60 your looking 30ish.

The boat is only rated for a 60. I'd like to have more HP, but much bigger than that gets tough to maneuver with a tiller in the timber.
