Financial Advisor

Guys,

I am looking for a financial advisor in the Lafayette area. I was told once that it isn't the name on the sign out side the building but the name on the door of the office that makes a good Financial Advisor.

Is there any in the Lafayette area that you would recomend?

Or would I be better off in an on-line account in some index funds?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A regular brokerage firm is a good choice with the least likely chance of losing your money. But if you know a little about investing, and the stock itself that you're interested in, then online brokers are definately the least costly way to go. Example, E-trade et al charge anywhere from $7-10 trades. Edward Jones charged me $150 for my last trade-and that was supposedly with a "discount". :( Fortunately, that stock I'm holding long term. If you like to "play" with stocks I would say online brokers. Be warned however...it's not as easy as it appears. ;)

Are you looking for a financial advisor, or someone to process your trades? If your looking at the whole package, I personally know a financial planner in Lake Charles that will probably travel to Scott to meet with you. His name is Barry Terrell. He's with The Firm of Louisiana. He is a certified financial planner. They also have a broker that can do your trades. Their number is 337-477-8312. Barry's an outdoorsman and would probably communicate well with most of the people on this site.

Are you looking for retirement or to play the market? if retirement you may want to look at vanguard funds. they have the lowest cost and they provide a financial planning service. if your looking to play the market scottrade is a good discount broker if you know what you want to invest in.

X2 on the Vanguard advice. They are a great company with the most funds having the lowest fees.
