gumbo onions
 
anyone heard of em or grow em? my paw paw grew em and the looked like green onions or small shallots. i'd like to grow some if i can get my hands on em.

This is basically shallots. Would you be possibly talking about wild onions ? They look like baby shallots....

yeah, i guess that's them. looks like em anyway. i'll try to grow some and see if i get that nostalgic taste. thanks.

They look like regular ole fashioned shallots to me. I can easily see soe one calling em gumbo onions for sure cause tey been in many a gumbo pot. We usta have a plate of the onions trimmed wit a lil green still on em on the table growing up my parents loved munching on them or slicing them into their supper plates. The strong green onion taste was great in stews or beans.
