which line?

Been using Cajun Red for a couple of years, but not happy with its memory and apparent "backlashability". I've used PowerPro braided line also, but not completely satisfied with that either. What line do y'all find is the best for a baitcaster? Just curious if there is a clear favorite among the group.

12-14 pound big game is the best all around line to me I use power pro in the marshes and once u get used to it you can't beet it in a marsh

I used the 6lb Cajun Red for white perch when it first came out and never bought any more of it for the same reasons but on a spinning reel. For my jig poles now I use Stren in the hi vis yellow and tie a 2' leader on it so I can see the yellow line move. I started thinking about that red line and how it was supposed to disappear under water because red is the first color that 'goes' when you get down to a certain depth, i.e. red snapper don't look red at all past about 10' down. Then I started thinking that lure makers were selling bleeding shad and bleeding mullet with red stripes on it to appear it was bleeding. Well, you can't have it both ways, you can't say red line disappears and red spots on a bait make it look attractive to fish underwater. To answer your question, I use 8lb diameter 30 lb test braid now for saltwater and tie a 2' 30 lb. fluorocarbon leader on the end.

I been using 12# Trilene XL Armor coated and absolutely love it for Top waters and jigs with my Cronarch. It stays a float good with topwater baits and is just as strong as big game IMO. I only run 10# Power Pro on the Spincast. No wind knots as long as you put it on wet and tight. ( ha ha. Wet and tight) Big Game is great also. I ran it forever and it's freakishly strong for 12# but it does have a little memory but it comes on a big spool and is cheap comparably so just respool. XL Armorcoat is awesome tho.

Clampy 11-12-2012 06:17 PM

Cajun Red is the absolute worst line and I'm ashamed to admit I bought a spool at one point. Ps Dura Cast Braid sucks also IMO. After running power pro I don't see how other braid companies stay a float. I've tried so many and always came running back to the PP. but I can't stad to throw any treble hooked baits with anything but mono.

Montauk17 11-12-2012 06:50 PM

I use stren original and stren sonic braid

meaux fishing 11-12-2012 06:54 PM

I use stren original and suffix braid

dhebert307 11-12-2012 06:55 PM

Not a fan of cajun red either. Just spooled a couple reels with suffix siege 17# like it so far.

Duck Butter 11-12-2012 07:01 PM

Where is the cajun red line made? Is the person who invented it from Louisiana

sniper3726 11-12-2012 07:08 PM

X 5 6 or 7. Berkley Big Game

biggun 11-12-2012 07:17 PM

It all depends what Ur fishing for??? Saltwater. Hands Down. Suffix Seige 12 & 14# in the green..

Great Abrasion resistance.. and Floro: I use Vicious floor in the 15# for reds mostly..

Seagur Abriz X floro is also Top of the line.. Pricey .. But Worth every penny...

Very Little memory on all the above lines..

Clampy 11-12-2012 08:05 PM

Suffix siege mono is really good also. The abrasion resistance is second to non for mono.

P&Pguide 11-12-2012 08:18 PM

Playing with some Power Pro Super 8 Slick, so far good, price is ridiculous , cast a mile

fishnla 11-12-2012 08:23 PM

berkley trilene 100% florocarbon for most everything other than topwater.
