Cocodrie

I've only been down to Cocodrie twice, we managed to catch a few trout each time but last time we went late May, was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction for Saturday. Planning on making a day trip from New Iberia launch at Coco's and head home that evening. I'm thinking we'll start in Pelto and head toward the islands maybe some rigs close in. Any guidance in the right direction would be welcomed. thanks!

Stop at the old sulphur mine on the way out. Then hit the well heads in lake pelto. If nothing then head to the beaches on the islands.

That's a long way to drive from New Iberia to fish in cocodrie. You will need to get there early in the morning. First light is before 6am right now.

I fish that area a lot you will have a bunch of people on top of you around the islands and the mine but if you can get there first you might hitem pretty good.

Rock/bird/wine island, depending on who you ask, could be good also. I like that area because I can head toward timbelier or last island from that area.

If I was going this Saturday (and I still might) I would hit the sand bar around calliou boca.

A lot of places you can go from cocodrie.

It's about 1.5 hour drive and yes we plan on getting there around 6am. There's a few trout to be caught on our end but limited and only if winds permit. I appreciate the advice and I'm planning on some live shrimp to shrink the odds! lol

you should be there at 5 am and ready to cast before first light

Go straight south till you see land then hit every rig/wellhead you see. Stay for 10 minutes if you don't catch move till you find your limit.

Passes between the islands and wellheads just north. Just because it is a small wellhead does not mean it does not have good structure under it. Make a few dozen cast, if you dont catch move on.

Yep we've caught close to a limit before under a single leg wellhead over there

I've been thinking of going out of Coco Marina Saturday also. I've been to cocodrie about a half dozen times but have never really gotten on them real good. A couple specks here and there and reds in the marsh. I really need to learn the area better.

first me we went 3 guys fishing we caught 30-40 trout a day, the 2nd time 3 guys we had 60ish, it was may when we were down there once in 2014 and again 2015... I'm just hoping for a mess but 50 would be great! lol

CaryLab 06-23-2016 01:31 PM

I'd take 50 any day. A month ago 6 of us went out in 2 boats to Racoon Point and caught 139 on Saturday. Great trip!

Don't over look the birds in the passes and just offshore. They can have nice fish under them. I would not worry about the birds in the bay usually smaller fish and trash.

MattMigues 06-27-2016 02:33 PM

Ended up with 13 trout to keep threw back 20 undersize fish and 4 sheepshead. wasn't the best trip but managed to catch a mess, jumped around on wellheads in Pelto.

CaryLab 06-27-2016 02:34 PM

We ended up with 31 keeper specks but could've limited out. Left them still biting because my lil boy wasn't feeling good.
