Last few trips to the Burns
 

Haven't posted a report in a while so I figured I would post about the last couple trips. My brother in law and I went out on May 12th. Wind blew like crazy the entire time we were out. As usual, we fished paddletails, watermelon red finesse worms, and crawfish. It was one of those trips where one person in the boat couldn't buy a bite for a while and the other was tearing them up. He did end up catching a few, though. I caught a large choupique and released it. We ended the trip with 19.

This Tuesday we went out around lunch. It was cloudy and just a light wind after that line of storms went through. My brother in law redeemed himself this trip as the catch rally was closer to even. This trip he caught a big choupique which we released. I caught one decent bass around 3 lbs that I also released. We fished about the same baits as last trip and ended with 14 and 1 big bluegill that ate my finesse worm. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2285082763.jpg

Now that my girls are out of school, I should be posting some trips with them.

Are you talking about the shorter "finesse" worms or the "trick" worms?
I threw a trick worm for a good while out there last Saturday with no results.
I'll post the results of my trip.

I've been leaning on Zoom Horny Toads in various colors, flukes in various colors, a white/chartreuse buzzbait, and the occasional Senko in silver/pearl.
The Senko has a great action but they're not very durable in the marsh environment. That can get expensive...
For some reason, I don't have great luck with plastic Craws out there. I know a lot of folks lean on them out there, but it doesn't really produce for me.
I'm going to try and stick to bluegill colors as that seems to be what's in their stomachs lately.
A buddy fished Sam Rayburn last weekend and cleaned three bass with bream in their bellies. Makes sense, as it's time for the bream spawn.

I was throwing the trick worms. I caught most of my fish on them. My brother in law was fishing the paddletails and crawfish. The fish I cleaned had a lot more bream in their stomachs these trips. I think I only saw one crawfish.

Have you ever tried Z Man baits? I have some of their paddletails and some worm baits. I have fished one bait all day, 20 or so fish. It is a little different than regular plastics, but it is good for all the bream bites, gar, choupique, etc. in the marsh that tear up your baits.

Went the other day. Saw more 40hp motors than 25hp motors. Lol. Saw a 60 too.

Yup. I guess we are the dying breed that follows the rules.
I wanted a 40hp motor but bought a 25 so I could fish The Burns. In the end, I'm the chump.
The hyacinth is really starting to dominate out there. In a few years you will have to have a surface drive motor to even get down the main canals. In 20 years, the whole place will be a prairie with some ponds in it.
