broke-back corky question

Just started throwing broken-back corkies back in December. I have problems fishing them as slow as I would like to (wading) without them dragging bottom. I've tried every imaginable retreive. Fishing 3-5 ft. of water typicaly. How do ya'll fish em????

Mine never touch the bottom when rigged on a cajun thunder poppin cork! #ondemhawgz

CAMP CANARD 02-18-2015 03:51 PM

Same here. Have come to the conclusion that u have to fish it a little faster than when using the traditional ones. Hold your rod tip as high as your comfortable with, and give it a little "pop" every 6 or 7th revolution.
Don't give up ! Its a great bait !

What kind and size line are you using?

Got to twerk it

RichWentFishing504 02-18-2015 07:14 PM

Why not just use a floating?

fishinpox 02-18-2015 08:34 PM

Try bending the nose slightly up , so when you twitch it climbs slightly instead of dive. I work it like I would make a top water "walk the dog" except much slower and under water of course

Broke Backs

I inject a little Helium in mine to increase the Beyoncé.

I have had the same problem. I took a couple of each kind and practiced my retrieve in my swimming pool where I could see every move the bait made. I realized two impprtant things.
1. I was actually retrieving the baits too slow. They were hitting the bottom faster than I thought they would. A slow steady retrieve with my rod tip up kept the in the suspended position.
2. A soft twitch of the rod was better than a hard one. A hard twitch can cause the bait to do a 180 degree turn while a soft twitch gave a nice elevation of the bait and good movement.

Hope this helps. It did for me and the next trip out I caught some nice fish while wading.

one thing that will help is use mono or braid, probably already know that fluorocarbon sinks really fast

This is exactly where I was going with my line question earlier. Heavier mono will definitely help keep it up.
