Well, VR 287 was removed today. Another fishing hole lost forever in the GOM.

are they leaving the bottom half of it?

calcutta37 10-17-2013 04:59 PM

More than likely they will go down and cut that too.

I use to test the gas sales meter there. Only platform I had seen with the well heads in the legs.

Had that place on one of my loops for a few hitches after they unmanned it waiting for pipeline repairs. Couldn't recognize it from the pics, but the wells in the legs was a giveaway.

Who's doing the removal work?

Duck Butter 10-18-2013 03:08 PM

Are they cutting them off? Not blowing them up?

Guess if its going to happen, that cutting them kills less fish bout the only good thing I can think of:(

Just doesn't make any sense... These things should be cut off 20-30 ft below surface (whatever makes the most sense from a safety standpoint, then have a marker placed there so shrimp boats know there is something there...

And they should then be allowed to remain as valuable reefs..

Anything that makes sense does not happen when the gobment is involved. We are jetting down 20' below mudline and cutting for removal. 3 of 4 have been cut as of 7pm tonight. It will be on a deck tomorrow.

I've got 2.
One that pays the bills, and one that has my heart.

No wacky toebacky here. Age and life's hard knocks may have dampened my sense of humor a bit, but occasionally I still take a swing at a hanging curve.
