So...Who is gonna do this?

Came across this. The theory is solid, less interference but i can see this getting ripped of the hull constantly in Louisiana waters....

Why not just put a thru-hull?

are thruhull transducers any different from the transducer it comes with? Our bay boat's transducer is mounted as a thruhull transducer, but doesn't look any different from ones that aren't. It works like a charm too

Can you get accurate water temp with a thruhull transducer?

wishin i was fishin 06-10-2015 09:29 AM

this is the sidescan, LSS2 transducer. you can mount directly to the hull on a flat bottom, but not a v hull. on the web page they have pics of a guard for the front using molded PVC pipe.

Thru hulls usually dont have temp sensor since it is not in contact with the water. If the did all you would really get is "Hull Temperature"

I'm thinking about it. Since I'm about to get the bracket.

Or find a spacer to place in between my step and the lss2 transducer to lower it a few inches

We get water temps with ours that's mounted as a thruhull transducer. All we did is silicone it to the bottom of the boat next to the bilge pump.

Before anyone says anything, I'm pretty certain the temperature are correct. We've been fishing in extremely cold weather and it'll still read what the water temp would be if we'd compare it to one of the nearby stations.

I had my last transducer mounted in-hull. Read water temps fine. My current one is mounted thru-hull. It's not cheap to mount it but I like it.

you have to cut a hole in the boat for that kind right?

skeeter77346 06-10-2015 11:37 AM

The LSS-2 reads best at low speeds - 5 knots. Not planing speeds. My last 2 boats had the LSS-2 mounted under the JP. There are mounting brackets too - see --> http://www.transducershieldandsaver.com/home/l-brackets

True but if it's mounted closer to the water line when on plan it will still read the bottom. It wont be clear but you can see the bottom whether it's hard or soft. That way you can see any changes in bottom contour. This is more for viewing sonar logs and taking notes

This Lowrance install manual may help you guys think through what works best for your setup. Page 11 says DO NOT install on the hull bottom/ primary running surface. Some people do though and they all get knocked off eventually.

Good luck.

I see a setup like that as just a snag waiting to happen

True, the theory is, if the hull is in the water it will acclimate to the temp of the water. i cant see there will be a big difference in temp.

Lawrence, I thought you were getting good results by moving yours to the "step" part of your hull like I did. Mine works great there.

That's is my transducer. I actually moved off the step and it's on the v bottom under the step.

Im referring to my lss2 structure scan. It reads like it should 0-10mph. But I want it to read and producr an image when on step. It wont be clear but you can see the bottom.

alphaman 06-11-2015 08:05 AM

I'm going to get the bracket and mount the to the v bottom part under the step. Like I did with my transducer.
