Helped put out 750,000 bass fry on Mermentau River today. Thanks to Johnny Guinn and Dennis Teije for getting WLF to bring them.

Great stuff here! Now we just need it to happen on Calc

meat killer 86 04-17-2015 07:05 PM

I think they put 100,000 on Calcasieu after the hurricane if I remember correctly. Not a lot but I'm sure it helped.

BassYakR 04-17-2015 07:45 PM

Yeah... i heard that also.... 750,000 spread out all over calc would be nice.

smit2777 04-17-2015 09:42 PM

Man that sure would be nice in lake boufe and bayou black areas

Murphyjs 04-17-2015 10:23 PM

It's a canal off of the lake. A couple blocks from main street in Lake Arthur. I can see my stepdad's shrimp boat in the background.

papap 04-18-2015 07:40 AM

Yes it's the shrimp boat dock. The dock under the highway 14 bridge was flooded.

funkyflemmons 04-18-2015 10:36 AM

some of these were brought north around hwy 90 and nepique huh?

papap 04-18-2015 12:02 PM

I know for sure one boat was running up to around castex.

Stocking

I talk to biologist last year and he said that they would not stock in cal because water quality is so poor.

BassYakR 04-18-2015 04:35 PM

But they stocked the mermantau? **** is muddier than cal river....

papap 04-18-2015 04:36 PM

We were told as long as we did the stocking they would give them to us.

BassYakR 04-18-2015 04:57 PM

Good to know... Goin to look into this... I know alot of ppl who would help with this.

funkyflemmons 04-18-2015 08:49 PM

BassYakR the mermentau is not much worse than calc, with west fork as exeption, mermentau gets clearer than west fork at times

SteelD 04-18-2015 09:44 PM

Just going off of what ive seen every single time ive been... Usually looks just like the north end of Calc river.... I wasnt downing the river one bit... just saying that if they wont stock calc bc of water conditions then they shouldnt be able to stock any of the local rivers... bc they are all very much alike. Its political! someone w some stroke wanted it done... it got done.... simple as that.

Water clarity and water quality are not one in the same. When a scientist is referring to water quality, he's talking about the level of contamination in the water. Bayou D'inde is clear as hell, but the worst waterbody in the state as far as contamination.

In terms of water quality, the Mermentau is much worse than the Calcasieu. Back in the mid to late 2000s, there were several reports illustrating the water quality issues of the Mermentau, with every one stating that several if not all segments were not suited to supporting wildlife and fisheries populations.

So, I would lean more towards the idea that someone pulled the right strings, unless some major water quality work has been done on the Mermentau in the last 7 years.

Gotcha Smalls! Makes sense.

Now, before someone misunderstands, I'm not saying water clarity and water quality are not related. Suspended sediments affect water clarity and water quality. But water quality itself is not the same as water clarity.

I'm just saying that they are not basing their decision on water clarity, but water quality, which is a measure of several pollutants.
