Boycott the S.T.A.R.: CCA Failed to protect Oysters in Big Lake

Oyster dredging was legalized in Big Lake in 2005 while CCA was too busy in bed with the LWF Commission working to get the restrictive speck limits passed. Here's a graph showing the LDWF Oyster Stock Assessments on the east side of Calcasieu Lake from 2004-2013. Note the near total destruction.

Hey CCA put a 650k reef because they believe we don't need natural oyster beds to support our estuary

Sad Sad Sad Sad that the CCA let this happen

I blame them 100% for giving up the fight and I can pull up all my CCA donation on my taxes to prove I supported the CCA until they gave up and let oyster dredging kill the lake!!

Dam they dont put a limt on oysters, like they do everything else. So many bushell a season then shut it down. Seems like they would protect their next year crop and not ripe them out. Dont seem to be good for anybody!!!!

CCA motion

Have trout limit lowered with Zero evidence needed

Give up on oyster dredging with tons of facts and science

It's nice that they are saying sit tight... Perhaps you should respond with... "MOVE YOUR ASSES!!!".... or "SH*T or GET OFF THE POT"

Where was the CCA representative for this event?

I saw no mention at all if CCA was present here or had anything to say about it. this is an example where if CCA wanted to be visible and let people know they are out there working for us they should have went find someone to voice an opinion or make a statement "for the record" so their view was represented. I honestly have no idea what their position or viewpoint might be here but isn't that the whole point and another reason why people have no faith they are doing ANYTHING but building reefs and taking photo ops? a press release like this should mention and have a statement by CCA in it somewhere and its not a well kept secret this is happening. if you want people to change their views of you you need to be visible, get with it CCA.

Organization working with fishermen to reduce bycatch

By: Janet Mcconnaughey, Associated Press

Headlines posted Tuesday, April 22, 2014

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — One way to get anglers and commercial fisherman to use devices to save sea turtles, dolphins and off-limit fish is to have them help design and test those devices, scientists told turtle scientists and conservationists — members of the International Sea Turtle Society.
Mike Osmond of the World Wildlife Fund described the International Smart Gear Competition contest to create gear for reducing bycatch — anything a commercial boat or angler isn't trying to catch. There's a $30,000 grand prize, two $10,000 prizes and two $7,500 prizes. This year's deadline for entries is Aug. 31, he said.

He was probably only a few blocks away.......at Drago's eating oysters and redfish on the half shell, wearing some freshly starched nautical attire and some nut hugging khaki shorts.

we need to call a meeting with the CCA to drive from Baton Rouge and get there azzez here to Big Lake and hear what is going on.

The poor CCA LC board thinks that guides and fisherman are really in there side! How Cute

I have not heard of one guide out of 20 say a good thing about CCA and what they have done the past 10-15 years for us

The crabbers hate them 100xs more
Shrimpers 200xs more

BuckingFastard 04-23-2014 08:37 AM

hey well if youre a paying member then you probably just received your invite to the banquet..... which is another $60 per head.

keakar 04-23-2014 09:09 AM

well this story wasn't about big lake, it pertains to everywhere in the state but because I mentioned CCA in the title when I posted it, they buried it here.

it was supposed to be in its own thread since its not about big lake or oysters at all.

Got that the constant barrage of raffle tickets for sale. The only correspondence received from them about actual ISSUES was yesterday for all CCA members to email members of the House Natural Resoucrces Committee in support of HB 1082 (increase in licennse fees).

BuckingFastard 04-23-2014 09:13 AM
