Costas lenses

I was curious how many have the glass lens vers. The plastic ones. Which one's hold up better and what would you pick.

Finfeatherfur 07-06-2011 10:25 AM

580's all the way!!! Some people say they can't tell the difference, but I own 2 pairs of 580's and they hold up so much better than anything I have ever owned before. Had some Maui Jims that were good, but after a year, the scratches were horrible. These 580's appear to be bullet proof.

Raymond 07-06-2011 10:29 AM

There is a reason for the difference in price, glass lens have better optic quality and are harder which means tougher.

cricket 07-06-2011 10:37 AM

Are 580's the glass

Jordan 07-06-2011 10:38 AM

i have 580's and their the shiznit.

Lake Chuck Duck 07-06-2011 10:41 AM

580 glass. hands down. If you want plastic I would just get a pair of calcutta's and save some money.

specksNdaSURF 07-06-2011 11:15 AM

I have a pair of both .... 580s are the way to go but they are a little heavy than the ploycarbon lenses

inchspinner 07-06-2011 11:27 AM

for fishing go 580s for everyday use go 400s....there is a diff, you just have to look outside with both...

cricket 07-06-2011 11:28 AM

that is what im worried about is the weight. I just ordered prescription lenes for my costas and they can only come in the 580 so im worried about the weight and how they'll hold up vers the plastic lenses.

RonnieF 07-06-2011 11:28 AM

Two pairs of 580's and love 'em. I don't think they are shatter proof, so be careful with any glass lens.

Weight isnt an issue. As long as they hold on your face you are good to go. And 580s all the way.

jescuriex 07-06-2011 11:49 AM

Go with the glass lenses the plastic scratch easier.

Lake Chuck Duck 07-06-2011 12:08 PM

I have the same pair in 580 glass and the plastic and I cant tell a difference in weight.

I promise you they will shatter/crack. I have two pairs and one is sitting at Costa getting new lenses right now. The first pair I sent back they deemed manufacturer defect and this pair is costing me a hundred bucks to replace. So I guess you have a 50/50 shot at having costa replace them at no cost.

Montauk17 07-06-2011 12:32 PM

Just a heads up....costa makes a plastic and glass 580. I have some plastic 580's,had them for over a year and scratches are not a issue. I do everything with them including cutting grass.

BaseballFisherman 07-06-2011 01:11 PM

I have 2 pairs of 400s and 2 pairs of glass 580s. All 4 pairs have held up great. You won't notice much of a difference between the two just driving around town or watching a ball game. On the water though, the 580 lenses are game changers. It's definitely worth the extra money to get the 580s. Check out eBay because I got 2 great deals on my 580s - got them both cheaper than my 400s I bought from the store.

How can you tell? I've been wondering about this

Go 580s! Not sure if I have glass or plass lens

Montauk17 07-06-2011 01:15 PM

On the package it will say 580P or 580G. The glass ones are also more expensive. Most of the costa's on ebay are the plastic version.

580P are CR39 (PLASTIC) and should be on lens.

Always go with glass lens, durability, optic quality can't be matched by any plastic lens. The 580's are clearer and sharper contrast than any 400 series lens. My 400's are relagated to mowing the yard now.

Raymond...lens are no heaveir than normal...I'm getting my prescriptions repaired right now. Broke my tripletail frames. Now my first pair of prescriptions I scratched because stupidly I was wearing them while weedeating and something smacked my lens and left a small small scratch. Also I shattered my first pair. fell off the top of my head and hit the concrete dead center on the lens and CRACK. I will always have prescips...I love mine! Just gotta be careful. Its worth being able to see on the water.
