Firearm Safety Features? Maybe Not so Safe?

I have a Mossberg over/under 12ga and it is my favorite squirrel gun. Only had it a year. It's great an I realize it is no where near the upper end of that style of gun but it shoots great. Dicovered today that it has a safety feature that will not let the gun fire when pointed straight down. Good for not shooting your foot but not so good when a cottonmouth is really close to your foot and you want to get rid of his head.
