Marsh plant

Buddy of mine just called me n asked me what I think he has growing in his pond. He said its fern lookin stays right underneath surface but slimes the surface and can barely tell water is there and has roots going to the bottom. Haven't seen it but could it be widgeon grass?

Could be, but a picture would help......fern looking and underwater is not a whole lot to go off of. There are species of fern that grow underwater, however, I am not familiar with them. If he can get a picture, that would make ID a lot easier.

It is either coontail, fanwort or milfoil.... all three are submersed aquatic weeds. If he is trying to get rid of it, diquat or reward works well, Sonar works well too. Endothall is good if you can find it. All are used in aquatic situations and will not harm the fist if done properly (according to label).
