Enjoying the sport 7/24

Some of you know, but many don't. At work on Monday after noon, I had a heart beat skip and what felt like it didn't start beating again. I felt like all blood stopped flowing and my body went numb, no matter my breathing. I do not remember driving down the street back to work, or what happened when I got there. I just remember getting to the er. When they hooked me up, blood pressure was high 180s over 120, heart rate was around 150bpm. I thought I was going to die in the car.

Needless to say, it really made me realize anything can happen and to enjoy the time we have. So, Tuesday morning I did what I love. Hit the lake with saltyshaw and had a great fishing trip. Caught this nice girl on tops, guess God wanted me to know my heart was working.
Still had my er bands on.

Just got back from cardiovascular appointment. Got put on a 48hr monitor. Sonogram of my heart revealed my mitral valve prolapse that makes my heart move too much and will need to be replaced in 15-20 years.

Be thankful for every day.

Mitral valve repair isnt what it used to be (in a good way)... coronary angiography and percutaneous intervention has come a long way!!! I worked in the heart cath lab as a circulating RN for 3 years soo if you have any questions feel free to ask. Procedures are becoming less invasive these days. cardiology has come a LONG ways. my prayers go out to you. i know this can be a scary ordeal.

Top Dawg 07-25-2012 04:24 PM

Thanks everyone, thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. As for the fish, she was released to fight another day.

Found out some family history these past few days, looks like there's been heart attacks at young age on my dads side a couple generations back. I knew I couldn't keep eating like an athlete, but this is as good a reason as any to live healthy.
