Catfish jug lines
I went on Lacassine refuge today bass fishing. Looks like some one had been in the canal at sometime catfishing and left there foam jug lines behind. I can see how this will end up being band on refuge.

Went a few weeks ago bass fishing in the duck pond and someone had jugs every where thought it was illegal?
It's legal but these looked like they had been there awhile. They were covered in slime.
i fish alot of jugs. it is my understanding that they have to be manned, just like a gill net.
i hate it when trashy people leave jugs out. it is my pet peave, and i fish up to several hundred at a time. i fish, then i pick them up. no good comes out of leaving them out. i'm also the guy who will pass some lead at you if you try to raise my juglines, so unless you want a confrintation, catch your own fish and leave mine alone. lol it always amazes me how a guy in a 80k$ boat will risk his life to steal a 3$ catfish. i thought jugs on refuge/wma was not legal. i know u ain't supposed to on marsh island. |
10 jugs per boat on refuge.
To my understanding they are illegal inside the impoundment but I could be wrong
So I can fish them inside streeters around the duck pond and surrounding area?
Yes hey all legal all over streeters. Only reason I picked up one was I wanted to see how long they had been there. Most were up on bank or tangled in grass.
Lmao all these years I thought it was illegal I'm going to have to go try my luck on them big far in there. Thanks papa for clearing that up for me.
I would for sure find some more info on it before just goin to do it in streeters and be clear on the rules
i sure would like to drop 10 jugs in marsh island on my way to the reefs !!
It being legal to have jugs on the refuge is news to me. I have always been told that you can't even have them in possession while traveling on the refuge.
You can throw jugs in Streeter. I found in the Louisiana regulations that: Trotlines, juglines, trammel and gill nets and traps are prohibited on the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, and Marsh Island Refuge for sure. I haven't looked in the Federal Refuge regs yet but I would be willing to bet that they are the same. |

The ones who were fishing the Duck Pond with jugs a few weeks ago, think they know everything. When told that they were in violation one wanted to argue with the guy across from them, so he let them be, but they didn't get caught.

Ok found what I was looking for. Jugline fishing is allowed on Sabine but not on Lacassine.
"Fishing is permitted with rod and reel or pole and line only on Cameron Prairie and Lacassine NWR’s. Sabine NWR permits jug fishing in designated areas in addition to rod and reel and pole and line fishing. See refuge specific regulations." You can read all about in here. It plainly states it on the first page. http://www.fws.gov/southeast/pubs/SWLAcomplex_Fish.pdf The one who were jugging in the Duck Pond can also read this, but they were told about it already |
The jugs in the one mile canal are still there. Would bet they are not coming back for them. They have to be over 20.

The one mile is the canal across bayou from streeters canal.

Looking for a cheap but affective weight/anchor solution not running more than 10 if that changes how I should weight them
