I used to do well. But we talkin 25 years ago.

Sacalait can be good in the creek on the very north end. With them draining it this summer not sure how it will be. Although, when they drained Vernon, the grass grew in the lake basin and when the water did come back they had a bass explosion.

Havent been there since I was a kid.

Its LOW LOW LOW... cant even launch a boat in there right now. They drained it so they could cut more boat lanes and mark them properly as well as give the folks that live on the lake a chance to make repairs to their docks or build new ones. They are planning on having everything done around 2-1-14. Gonna take a long time to fill it up. Only way to touch water there is to launch an air boat and skip across the mud til you hit the water.

I went out there Sunday and launched at the Hopewell bridge on the North end. They have a temporary launch beside the permanent one. I ran the entire length of the lake all the way to the south end. There were a few people in the creek channel white perch fishing and catching a few. As for bass, I don't really bass fish but I am sure there are decent numbers. According to some biologists I spoke with last spring it is loaded with white perch and catfish.

Water was about 2 feet from coming over the spillway Sunday. With the current rain it is probably at full pool now.

How many stumps you hit running the full length of the lake? Or do they have the boat lane marked well?

I followed the creek channel when it was low and didn't hit any stumps. But, I don't see any way you could follow it at full pool. The only real marked boat lanes I saw was from the flood gates to about mid lake, from the spillway to the flood gates, and from Hopewell bridge to the lake itself. Probably 1/2 of the lake is not marked with a lane between the bridge and flood gates. Unless I missed something.

BGcoreg 02-12-2014 09:50 AM

Did they have both green and red pipes? When it was drained they just had whites one in the middle of the boat lane

And yeah that's how it's been for several years , I just didn't know If they had put any new markers out since the lake came up a good bit

swampman46 02-13-2014 01:13 PM

OK so is it low low low or almost full?

Shut de deaux 02-13-2014 04:54 PM

It's almost full....

duck enticer 02-25-2014 05:51 PM

Buddy of mine's dad lives on the Dam end of the Lake (Southeast). He sent me a picture of an ice chest of huge sac-a-lait that his dad caught off of his warf this past weekend. It's already getting right.

BGcoreg 02-25-2014 09:27 PM

There's a louisianasportsman article on the state re stocking the lake with fingerling bass . Good read

CajunSpecial 02-28-2014 06:31 PM

Poppa46 02-28-2014 09:42 PM
