Hair jigs for trout.....

Long ago my dad fished a bucktail jig that looked like a shad rig ... Instead of the long lead head it was shaped with thread...Only weight was the hook...I tie my own poppers for bass and perch so I figure I got some jig heads laying around , why not???? I like smaller baits for trout especially in winter so I'll try these out......

they should love them

I think the lure makers just went for cheap and easy plastics rather then the more expensive to make lures

the one thing I never liked about the shad rigs were the rigid lack of movement, no tail flex at all isn't the best imitation of bait but they worked

I tie my own hair jigs occasionally also. There are tons of synthetic fibers these days to choose from, so you can just let your imagination run wild with your bait designs. Hair jigs do particularly well for flounders also.

When I was a kid this is all we used. You making them or purchased?

I made the ones in the pic.... I don't care for the hooks on the shad rigs these days...I made them with bucktail...
