I prefer cracked crab in most cases. But the claws are useful when you run out of crabs or if the catfish are tearing up your cracked halves before the bull reds and drum can get to them. A crab claw will almost always last until a big fish gets to it.

I had one trip where we started catching Reds on crack crabs and after catching a bunch we started breaking off the claws. The claws worked just a good that day, until the fish moved away.

Crab claw is what commercial drum guys use.
