I did some red snapper research

Here is a short video dispelling some of the myths about the new program introduced by LDWF.

just wondering but how are they going to choose the 150 residential fisherman?

This is not the way to go. Why would you be excited for having a fraction of a 1% chance of being selected, if it is even "random?"

There are tons of other ways to get data, they don't need some BS program in order to find out what we already know. They need to just continue to fight for individual gulf states to have management of the gulf waters. It's complete BS for us not to have at least a couple month season and 4 fish limit for EVERYONE. The state and feds can gather plenty of info on snapper regardless of a pilot program, the feds just don't want us to have them. It's strictly political.

If I got selected, I still wouldn't change my mind. This is not socialism, snapper are an extremely plentiful fish that is an abundant resource we should ALL have a right to, not just a select few chosen by the government.

I suppose you are opposed to all lottery systems LDWF uses then?

Yes, pretty much. They are different in a way though. Lottery hunts on public land are for that piece of land only, it's not like hunters can't go hunt the species elsewhere.

Like I said, you and I know it's completely BS we can't go catch snapper. The fact that some people are happy with this half a** attempt to give a tiny fraction of fisherman, and only those guys, the ability to go catch the over-abundant fish blows my mind.

Maybe that's what it is going to take to get the feds to give management control over to the state.

Hell, I don't know, and I can't say that I care. I have no means of going after the fish anyway.

I also disagree with your assessment of lotteries. I don't see any difference, and I have no problem with them. They are intended to limit opportunity to harvest a particular resource. Instead of closing that resource off completely, it offers limited opportunities. I for one see no reason West Bay WMA should have a turkey lottery given the number of birds killed there, but there is a lottery, so it is what it is.

I will say 25k lbs seems like a lot of fish, and to only go to 150 anglers (or whatever the number is) seems like a lot to a few, but I don't know what the population is, or what percentage of it that 25k is.

The turkey lottery is different in the fact that anyone in the state can buy a turkey license and kill one, just maybe not in a certain WMA. This snapper lottery will allow only a few, not anyone who can buy a license. Not seeing the relation here.

The state season will still be open. And it's not like these people have unlimited access. Those numbers equal to about 20 fish per boat. So it's the same 3 day season pretty much they can just choose the days instead of going June 1st-3rd
