Fighting Against Diabetes with Improved Lifestyle

Health Update

Friends and family have been asking about my health since I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes in August and decided to work hard at lifestyle choices rather than medication. I've lost about 25 lbs so far and increased the bicycling from an average of 20 miles to over 40 miles per week, with some other exercise also. I am now tracking "calories burned" rather than miles (1 mile = 50 calories, so 20,000 calories is 400 miles if was all biking). The graph shows how much harder I am working this year than last.

I am monitoring blood glucose daily, and I will have some lab work with updated A1C results by the end of the year. I'm still figuring out some of the blood glucose issues, and I may need to drop 10-15 more pounds before things really get where they need to be. Losing weight is much harder pushing 50 than it was a decade ago.
