Prop ? 90 yamaha 2 stroke

looking for some prop advice. Im running a 1754 cajun special bay sport, i took the center console out and modified back deck and now running a 90 yamaha 2 stroke tiller on 6" manual jack plate. Right now im running a powertech SCD 17 and only getting around 5000 rpm and about 40-41 mph. Now that is with a little load. Me, wife, two small kids, trolling motor w/ extra battery. Gas tank and batteries are in the back. Would this boat be better off with a bow lifting prop or just go down in pitch with the SCD? Any other recommendations? thanks

Those rpm's and mph should be way up with that motor and only a 17 pitch. First question, do you have your motor height set correctly? If too low, that's a lot a drag. Are you running negative trim and making the bow plow? Have you checked cylinder compression? Just some questions to start right off the bat.

I thought the same thing when i first got the boat and then reading about all these people in xpress boats sling 19 21 pitch props. Compression is 120 in all 3 cylinders, motor runs great. Cavation plate is about 3-4" above bottom of boat. I trim it out till it gets alittle bounce then back off a bit

I think with a 90hp on that hyperlift hull you should be able to turn a 19p black stainless about 5400rpm.

I have the same size boat with a Yamaha 2 stroke 75hp, its the same motor as yours but tuned down.
I turn a 17 powertech 5400rpm 41mph
I turn a 19 Yamaha black stainless 5000rpm 38mph.

Sure is a pretty boat with the changes you made and 40 mph with that load is not bad.

May ask Cajunchristian about hooking the hull on a boat like this to get more trim and hold the bow up thus gaining more rpm= more speed

Just a thought
