fly fishing for reds

Hello everyone,
I have been in the area up at Polk for a bit over a year now and getting back to WA state, on vacation, has got me wanting to get the fly pole out again. Does anyone around the Hackberry down to Holly Beach area fish that area with a fly pole? I mostly fish from my kayak and would really appreciate any info or insight on fly fishing for reds.

I have seen folks have a lot of success in other areas with a fly pole, and can't recall seeing anyone on my trips in in the mentioned area using flies. If you guys have some info on best way to catch them on a fly and some of the prime flies to bring down I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I have not fished reds with fly gear in SW Louisiana but did a bit of it around Venice/Buras area in the MS. delta in the 80's/90's. I exclusively threw a 'shrimp' fly that was slightly weighted with tiny lead shot as its 'eyes'. I used an 8wt Weight Forward line on a 7/8 Sage or St. Croix rod. If you can get back into any shallow pockets off of drainages on the east side of Big lake you should be able to see reds tailing and sight cast to them. It was great fun back then.

Lots of good opportunities around Calcasieu, and there's no funner way to catch redfish. PM sent.

There is plenty of spots the only problem is private land. Black Lake is a good area just know were you are. May be a long haul in a kayak.

I don't know north side of Lake Charles and Prien Lake but may be some good spots.

Plenty of great drifts in Big Lake. I've caught some trout like that too.
