Bunk boards??????

Ok guys, I am getting ready to take off for the camp, so give me all your opinions while I am away. Attached is a picture of the trailer for the Contender. I have seen hundreds of trailers for big boats like this that have the bunk carpet last less than a year. As you can see, this trailer needs new 'something", but I am not leaning towards carpet.

I am thinking of ripping some schedule 40 PVC pipe in like a 4" size, then attaching it to the sides of the boards w/ stainless screws and washers. The little "glide" packs they sell at Bass Pro and such is not an option due to the weight of this boat. Those do work well and I have them on my trailer, but I'm looking at something to protect this money we are spending on the hull!

pvc will crack due to the weight. try some teflon strips on top of the boards

I'm also in need of replacing my carpet on my bunk where can I get the Teflon strips. R something else. I have 17ft bay boat. Thanks

Just be careful, I've seen where teflon scratch up the bottom of hulls pretty badly.

had them on every fiberglass boat trailer ive ever owned and i know tons of people who use them and never have seen them scratch one. never had it on aluminum if thats what your referring to.

Actually had it on our jet skis.

It's just minor wear on the bottom, but still there. And the bottom of the hull is painted black

you can also make your own a good bit cheaper if you can find someone who sells teflon. i get mine from midsouth trucking in broussard they sell it by the foot. i usually get enough to cover the whole top of the board unlike the small narrow strips. just make sure you countersink your holes and use stainless screws.

i could see it not working on a jet ski because they are so light they tend to bounce around on our lovely highways and a board and carpet would work better to absorb some of that shock as the hard teflon would make it bounce and probably do some damage.
