gold spoon

Had a slow day at the south end Saturday. Decided to tie on a gold spoon and experiment. Something big ripped it off my line on th first cast. It was the only one I had. I need to keep 3 or 4 on hand from now on.
I dont know much about the manufacturers. Can you guys tell me which ones you like to use for reds?

Make sure to use a swivel or split ring if you tie straight to Johnson sprite it will break off a lot

ragincajun327 08-02-2012 11:38 PM

You are right. I took the split ring off before I tied it on. I havent fished spoons since I was a kid.
I kinda like the kastmaster. It reminds me of the Mr Champs I grew up with. They fly half a mile.
I will get a Johnso Sprite if you have had good luck with them. Thanks..

I don't think a split ring is gonna prevent twisting.

Try Nemire, I think I spelt that right. They have rattles and a skirt on their spoons.

i always attach a split ring with a small swivel to my spoons to prevent line twist

The Mr. Champ is still a very effective lure.

Nemire Red Ripper spoons only thing I have every used comes with the split ring on it already and Mustard hooks. It doesn't twist and has a built in sound chamber for that something extra.

Caught a nice red on my first cast with this spoon a few weeks back! Plan on getting a few more soon.

I do well with the Norton brass rattling spoons,I only have a few left and have become pretty hard to find. The who-dat spoon looks similar.A solid tip I learned from Capt Ben Leto is fish that spoon like you would bouncing a jig slowly on bottom they eat it!
