Food Plots

I know this has been asked and posted on here before. What do you plant in your food plots. What area of Louisiana are you hunting. Is it open or wooded.

i just sent you a PM. I hunt in Miss. and I just planted wheat and winter peas. This is the first time so I'll let you know how it works out. I planted rye grass 2 years ago and once it got about 6" high, the deer would walk right through it . Pizzed me off as I spent a lot of time and $$$ to plant it. Good luck, Jeff.

Yea, I haven't planted rye grass since I got rid of my cows. I plant Oats, Wheat, and peas mostly. I have tried all kinds of blends but haven't had good luck. That's why I posted this. I fertilize, and lime my plots and still haven't had luck with anything else.

Geese won't eat tall rye grass either. They will tear up the little sprouts, but when it gets high, they avoid it.

Turnips,wheat,cow peas.
If you have hogs on your lease, the deer will never see the turnips. The hogs will eat every last turnip. Deer do love those turnips.

I planted iron clay peas this year, deer ate them up...planted half food plot with iron clays and the other half with hunter series mix of turnips, oats, and forgot the rest (walmart for $20) did 3 food plots like this, deer eat it all but prefer the peas. I've seen deer eating both and went to the plots over the corn so I consider it to work. Also I hunt a field and I used triple 13 fertilizer, 50lb sack for about 1 acre. All came up real well and have yet to see any deer anywhere other than the food plots. Ragley, Louisiana southwest
