Help me choose a kayak!!

Sooo im about to purchase my first fishing kayak. Im gonna start small so no Hobies or anything like that. Im basically at a stand still deciding between the Perception Pescador 12 from Academy for $529 or the Ascend FST12 from Bass Pro which is around $549. If anyone has experience with these kayaks or good advice on which one i should choose, PLEASE give me some insight. Thanks.

Pescador is same as wilderness ride. Half the price. Have one and like it. Still looking for used hobie.

Thanks. I'd love a hobie but I can't fit even a used one in my budget. I'm pretty set on the pescador. The ascend seemed to have a few more bells and whistes but I've seen review of peoples being head over heels about the pescador.

Bought the pescador 12 from academy couple weeks ago have 2 trip in her. Kind of a wet kayak but great overall.

I bought a Pescador a couple months ago and really like it. If you're not in a huge rush, wait a little while cuz they'll go on sale for $450. The week after I bought mine they went on sale so I was able to get some money back.

just remember, shorter is harder to paddle and longer is easier to paddle. for the most part

Id say buy a used Jackson... the most important thing to me about a kayak is the seating! the seating in the Jacksons, hobies and natives are the best IMO

Chumdumpster 07-14-2014 09:13 AM

Yea I thought the pescador looked liked it seated you kinda low. That's why the ascend appealed to me. I've tried searching for used kayaks but there wasn't anything that caught my eye

This is the Ascend. Looks like a
Good buy for 549. Then again I don't know much about kayaks.

I know a guy with that kayak and he likes it a lot...very stable and great seat.

BuckingFastard 07-14-2014 09:31 AM

that does look like a good one and pretty good seating too. you dont wanna sit low, its annoying and isnt a good vantage point for seeing and casting.

I have seen the Acend FS12 on sale for $399. I really like the look of them and would really consider one.

dont buy a hobie!! they arent fireproof when struck by lightning! haha

Chumdumpster 07-14-2014 09:45 AM

Guess I'll make the trip to bass pro tomorrow. Still haven't seen them in person. 499 would be pretty nice

Ouch!

Went to pack and paddle today and they convinced me I need a Jackson or hobie. Think I'll have to just take the sting of the price tag and enjoy my kayak.

Leaning toward the Jackson. Just don't want to get the Jackson and regret not having the mirage drive.
