Yamaha VMax

Anybody run a Yamama VMAX?
Any thoughts you can give me? Problems/issues, fuel consumption/mileage, etc. Been looking around for used boats and found one in my range that has a VMax and wondering if it is worth going to lafayette to look at. Not my first or second choice of motor but just dont know much about them.Thanks.

I have a 250 V max and have no complaints. Seems to be a strong motor just be sure to change the filters as required.

Top Dawg 07-17-2012 09:05 AM

My friend has the 250 vmax and it seems to have been a good motor. It's still running great and it's pretty old. He's still runs offshore too. And decent on fuel.

This one would be a 150. They look good with the black and red. I wonder how they compare to a mercury Optimax, which is what I wanted if I had to go 2-stroke.

Top Dawg 07-17-2012 09:11 AM

I'm not sure about the vmax. But I think the hpdi is comparable to the opti. Of course I don't know. Just guessing.

yup I got a 150 not the best on fuel

ive had a 115 vmax on a bass boat that I had for quite a few years, sold the boat and got me a bay boat that Ive been having for 10 yrs now it has the hpdi on it. Never had problems with either of them. Great motors.

redfish150 07-17-2012 11:22 AM

i have a HPDI V max 150 on a 20 Ft express bay boat. i like it so far, runs strong and decent on gas if you keep RPMs under 4K.

jchief 07-17-2012 11:37 AM

had a vmax on my Skeeter bass boat, 150. Had it for 10 years. No problems. 10 gallons an hour about

I had the 150 vmax hpdi (20" shaft) on my first xpress. Never had any issues and fuel mileage was pretty good but not as good as my yamaha 150 four stoke I have now.

I had a 200 Vmax HPDI on my Pathfinder... Good strong motor, no issues, just make sure the prior owner did his maintenance right and ask for a computer run...

200 Vmax on my pathfinder, I've only had it a few months but it's been a great motor. Surprisingly quiet compared to previous 2-strokes I have been around. Great torque too.

Somethings not right there... might want to get your engine checked out. What kind of boat you got?

Nothing wrong with the motor just make sure it's the Vmax HPDI. The regular Vmav 2 stroke will suck the fuel where as the HPDI version will get much better fuel economy.

I run the 150 VMax on a 22ft Pathfinder and get about 3.5mpg running at 4500rpm. Only problem ever had was build up in heads from previous owner not flushing properly. Great holeshot engine, mine is carburated overall very satisfied.
